That's a little silly, imo.

Could have been his once-in-a-lifetime chance. Even if we didn't sign him, others team would have been able to see him.

If he ends up getting a contract for the rest of the season with another team, without having to go through a 10-day contract, then he will have made the best decision, from his personal point of view.

need more context.  On the surface it's hard for me to believe this.  A D-leaguer wouldn't turn down a chance to play in the NBA.  He must have another offer or something.
