Anyone else wondering how a college kid affords Dr. James Andrews?

I doubt going to that expensive a specialist is covered by any normal health insurance.

I'm a working man in my thirties and I probably would have to mortgage my house to afford Dr. James Andrews.  And, wait about a year to get in the door.

Is the Univ. of Kentucky allowed to pay for the surgery?

No actual knowledge but I would guess he had a hefty insurance policy.

I'm guessing the school pays for it - I know when I was competing D1 at a non-rev sport, medical expenses related to the sport were covered by school.

Additionally I went to Dr. Gill at Mgh (Pats team Doc, has been Doc for Bruins and Sox in past) for a shoulder issue and that was covered by normal insurance - just took a while to get the surgery scheduled. I'm guessing famous Docs move up the athletes on their list because it's more urgent than the mid-age 30's guys.

Yeah, and if the school doesn't cover it most insurance companies will pay for just about any doctor as long as they accept the insurance. Also, if none of the above apply, Dr. Andrews could very well have done the surgery under the terms that Nerlens pay the bill once he signs his pro contract. Its not really a big deal.
