Obviously if Okur and Darko are options I'd go with them first.

After that, as I've said in other threads, I'd go Whiteside.  Leads the D-League in blocks and rebounds per 48, 7th in fg%, I've actually seen him play this year and when he was on the floor he totally changed the game, young, athletic, and actually a 7ft guy with long arms.

I don't care how bad a dufus he is, he can blocks shots by standing still and holding his arms up.

He also has never been on a good team with good role models.  I think he is definitely worth the risk.  We won't find someone with more skills and potential than Whiteside.

I definitely don't want another 6'9"ish center.  We need someone who can keep opposing guards and forwards from thinking they have a clear path to the basket.  If the guy can also rebound it is a big plus.

What if the best rebounder/shot blocker available was 6'9"?

Unless the guy can jump and touch the top of the backboard, I think that is highly unlikely.

Considering that Lou Amundson is 6'9", there's a decent chance it is true or close to true.

Fascinating list.
I picked Collins so we could save on jersey costs (don't we already have Collins jerseys?). And Balkman cuz I've always liked him. He'll help us get past the Knicks.
Celtics fan for life.

If you are serious, we have totally different recollections about Lou Amundson and his rebounding and block shot abilities.

Just going off his stats.  He has a better total rebounding percentage than any Celtic not named Sullinger.  He has a higher block percentage than any Celtic not named Melo (who has a tiny sample size).

To give you an idea, his trb% and block% this season are roughly equal to what Al Jefferson is doing.

If Scal can get into game shape, I'd seriously consider him. Would love him to match-up with Amare and Bosh, who are pretty much my main concerns during the playoffs.

That is quite a list.

I'd rather have any of those buyout guys than any of the free agents. I think Henry Sims is interesting, though.

I can't find where Amundson is even playing. His stats on NBA.com stop in 2010 and he isn't in the D-League.  While I think Jefferson is an OK rebounder, he has never been one to block shots.

It is hard to compare with players who haven't been able to get as much playing time, but if you compare Amundson to someone I like, Whiteside and his small sample size in the NBA or his larger D-League stats, he blows Amundson away in per 48min stats.  Double the blocks and almost 4 more rebounds.

Just going with the eye test though, I don't think it is close and I have no idea where Amundson has been playing the last two years.

This is his line last night.

Date    Opponent    Result    min    fgm-a    3pm-a    ftm-a    off    def    reb    ast    stl    blk    to    pf    pts
Feb 22    vs. TEX    L 91 - 119    29    6-9    0-0    1-2    5    10    15    0    0    4    2    2    13

In 29 minutes he got 15 rebounds, 4 blks, and went 6-9 from the floor.  That is just what we need, rebound, blocks and efficient scoring.

Amundson played with Indiana last season, with a solid contribution in the playoffs.  He was with Minnesota this season, where his already poor offense completely cratered.

Al Jefferson has finished in the top ten before in both rebounds and blocks per game.  He's not some dazzling, athletic shot-blocker who makes highlight reels, but he blocks more shots than KG has during his time in Boston.  Jefferson is still not a good defender, though.  If you care about defense, a shorter big who is not much of a shot-blocker is probably a better choice.
