For what it's worth, I took a look at the list of potential free agents (including players with ETO's, restricted free agents, other contract options, etc) for the 2014-15 offseason.

The list is STACKED and can't help but think of the summer of 2010 all over again.

I wonder if Danny has one eye open towards this. Only problem is (correct me if I am wrong) but if the Celtics roster stays as is, the Celts will still have zero cap space.

You'll have KG, Rondo, Lee, Green, Bass and Terry eating up the "pie."

So, I am curious if cap space starts becoming a big issue for DA, as I am sure it will with other GM's. Anyway, here's the list of the more relevant free agents.
Any chance we can land LBJ, Kobe and Bosh in '14? ;D

-Tony Parker
-Eric Bledsoe
-Kobe Bryant
-Paul George
-Dwyane Wade
-Carmelo Anthony
-Lebron James (here we go again)
-Rudy Gay
-Danny Granger
-Chris Bosh
-Pau Gasol
-Zach Randolph
-Amar'e Stoudemire
-DeMarcus Cousins
-Marcin Gortat
-Andersen Varajeo

I see most of those player resigning or getting extensions before they hit the market...

Very interested to see what Miami will do with Bosh James and Wade all potentially up.

I bet Bledsoe, Granger, Gortat, Stoudemire, Cousins, and Varejo are the realistic possibilities of going to free agency.

I might write a big post about this if the trade deadline passes without a major deal, but my cursory analysis is that the Celtics would have a shot at clearing enough cap space to sign a max free agent if KG retired after next season instead of playing out the last year of his contract.

Unless Ainge goes into rebuild mode, very much doubt we'll have cap space that year.

The year after that we should be big cap room players.

If KG retired after 2013-2014, the Celtics would have about $42m committed to 7 players, including team rookie scale options on Sullinger and Melo, but not including whatever it would take to sign Avery Bradley as a free agent.  With Terry and Bass as expiring contracts, it wouldn't be unthinkable that one or both could be traded in a salary dump to create cap space.

Now, that's only IF KG retires and his contract comes off the books, but it is not impossible that the Celtics could have a starting lineup two years from now such as Rondo, Bradley, Green, Sullinger, and a center who is worth a contract at least near the max.

No kidding. By the time KG's done, the team probably won't have anyone over 6-9.

Rosters can have 15 players, just get all but Varejao and let two get better in the D League. I think that would make us a contender

Is this the year that the Lakers have all that off-season cap space?
