Doc Rivers confirmed the Boston Celtics’ interest in adding players to their injury-depleted roster.

The Celtics are looking to fill the void left by the loss of Rajon Rondo, Jared Sullinger and Leandro Barbosa.

"Danny [Ainge] and I, we thought about it and we all have been thinking about it since all the injuries," Rivers said. "With the last one with Barbosa, now we can't look at one position anymore. That's what we were looking at — looking at size first, then a guard. Now we're looking at players. We need players. We need to pick up a couple of players as soon as we can get them. That's what basically we're doing.

"But we don't want to do anything so quick that somebody else comes available and then we don't have room because we're at the cap threshold. We have to be very careful in what we do."

Asked what kind of player would help most right away, Rivers said: "I would say a ball-handling guard. It's no longer a point guard, it's just a guard. If I had my perfect guard for this group right now, it would be a guard that can play multiple positions and that can shoot, that has some toughness.

"And then you need a big. You're not going to find a center, so a four. Obviously a five would be great, but a four that can stretch the floor. Or a four that can rebound, just a great rebounding four that has skills.”

Green is better than any stretch pf out there, so just focus on the rebounder doc

Sounds like delonte fits the description of the guard he wants

Neither has played meaningful ball since April... Though that didn't stop PJ Brown in 2008.

Yi Jianlin fits the first criterion well and the second so-so.

Love to have him. Can we sign him?

I agree, they are the best that is out there, unless someone better gets bought out.

think Doc is making a sales pitch here.

there will be some solid vets bought out if we see some trades.  guys like:

Elton Brand
Lamar Odom
Humphries or R Evans

I don't think we'll be going after FA that are out there like Martin, Fisher or West.  if we wanted those guys, they'd already be here.  All the cost cutting around the league, guarantee some good vets end up available after the deadline.  C's are their best option, and Doc just reminded em of that fact.

Only Odom has a chance to be bought out if traded.

I suppose I would prefer a rebounder over a stretch four.  But hey, I understand that picking are going to be very slim regardless.  So hopefully we can find someone that can at least contribute.

It's all relative.  I'd take a stretch four who can rebound and defend almost as well as Bass over an above-average rebounder who is limited to mostly put-backs on offense and doesn't play defense.

I'd like a BMW, a tastefully furnished third floor studio apartment with affordable rent, and to have my student loans completely forgiven.

We all want nice things.

Ugh.

Has Yi even been playing basketball the past few years?

At first I thought "yeah, right... Yi and his chair". But actually, I wouldn't mind him after watching him playing hard at the Olympics. He did quite well, mostly on offense.

And reportedly Danny wanted him back in the 2007 Draft, right?

Get him Danny, we need some international support!

None of those guys will probably be bought out.  The Clippers are trying to win a Championship and Odom is playing meaningful minutes.  Brand is averaging 7 PPG and 6.5 RPG and is signed cheap this year (2.1 million) so there's no reason for Dallas to buy him out, maybe trade him but probably not.   The same goes for Evans.  Unless Humphries is traded that won't happen either...
