What do you know about the Courtney Lee rumors that ESPN put out there recently? And are there any other player names you have heard rumored?

Ron Tillery: I know that current Griz management is fond of Lee mainly because they represented him (Stu Lash). But it’s hard to tell what Boston’s thinking is. If the Celtics traded Lee to the Griz into a trade exception it would be a salary dump. Right now, it looks like Boston is in a holding pattern given how well they are doing without Rondo.

I wouldnt get the point of trading Lee for a salary dump. Lee is more valuable to the team as a player and a trade asset rather than a trade exception.


Unless we shipping Lee to Memphis and a trade exception to Atlanta with a package for Smith?

I just dont see us dumping salary for nothing.

Yeah, I don't think Lee's a guy that would be dumped.

Maybe in a three-team deal to bring back another piece from someone else.

Exactly.  The only way that would work is if a third team didn't want to take on Lee's salary, and if Memphis were sending more value (maybe the raptors second rounder this year) to sweeten the pot on a bigger deal.

For instance:

BOS trades Lee to Memphis, who uses a TE to absorb Lee's salary
Memphis trades a 2nd rounder to Milwaukee
Milwaukee trades Sam Dalembert to Boston (Boston also sends out Jason Collins to the Bucks to make the salaries work)

Bucks turn an expiring contract into a TE of about $6 mil, cashable any time within a calendar year, plus a high 2nd.

Note: not going to argue for or against the above trade, just providing an example.
