What else are Phoenix giving up to get Al Jefferson?
Do they really need to give up much aside from Gortat (they have some expiring deals, which will reach the salary)? I mean really, everyone knows Jefferson is leaving Utah, what else do they have to give up to get him?
If Utah does really want a third team, I'd probably consider something like this, which I think might work for all 3 teams
BOS - Gortat, Dudley, Marvin Williams
UTA - Pierce
PHO - Jefferson, Melo
Minor pieces can be added as necessary.
Not good.
If the team is going after Gortat to improve the team this season, there is no reason to give up Pierce.
And no reason to bring back Williams. He is basically Green clone.
Yes, but those are the types of things you have to do get a center like Gortat and a solid wing like Dudley (who has an amazing contract).
Im not giving up Pierce for Gortat. Gortat makes us buyers in the market and gives us a better chance at winning this year. Without Pierce, trading for Gortat is less appealing.
I tried to fool around with the trade machine but came up empty. Bass and Bradley to the Jazz works but the Jazz are getting rid of Jefferson to make room for Kanter and Favors. They aren't going to want Bass in there taking up space.
Gortat is a young center on a very reasonable deal that helps Boston long term. If you can trade a veteran who is a year or two from retiring that has a big contract from a team that is not going to win the title, then you have to do it. In the trade I proposed, Boston also got Dudley, who is more than adequate filling in for Pierce.
