The Blazers are currently on the outside looking in for the playoffs this year, albeit 9th in the West with a chance to get the 8th spot and the honor to get eliminated by OKC or the Clips. This trade works $$$ wise, but not so sure realistically-wise. http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=a29rwp2Cs get : Hickson and Jeffries Port gets: Bass, Melo and our 2013 first Hickson is averaging 12/10 this year. He is very much "looking forward" to free agency. http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/226006/Hickson-Looking-Forward-To-Free-AgencyMany on the Blazers boards don't think that he will be back next year. http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1231419Do the Blazers take Melo and a first plus Bass' contract for a player that they probably won't have next year in Hickson and a PF in Jeffries who averages 7 mpg (or anyone else instead of Jeffries for ballast)? Do we give up Melo a first and Bass for a possible 4 month rental? I would do this, but am not sure the Blazers do. What do you guys think?

+1....interesting....I do that trade.....pretty fair for all...
how is that fair? Rondo and Wall are about equal, we basically get Hickson for free

Because one team benefits more doesn't mean all sides didn't benefit from the trade. Blazers get Ariza instead of getting nothing for Hickson. Wiz get Rondo. We get a lesser PG than Rondo and a 4 month rental of Hickson (we won't have his Bird-rights)which makes up for the downgrade at pg.

Why would they trade him, when they're hoping he resigns there?

seems like just yesterday hickson was on the NBA scrap heap, folks on this board were saying he was a bust... just goes to show "armchair scouts... " if portland doesn't think it can resign him and wants to get something in return before he walks I'd dangle bass and a 2nd rounder. Hickson grabs a lot of boards and he has an inch on bass, from a pure numbers perspective he is an upgrade but i don't believe he is the rim protecting impact big we need to make a run.

They think they have a good chance to resign him, so I don't see why they'd trade him.

It will be almost impossible to do but with Sully going down I don't see how we trade anyone out of the rotation and get a good big. Best bet is to find a better big free agent or dislodge someone with matching salaries and draft picks. I don't see how any of this bunch is expendable now:
c KG Wilcox F Bass F PP Green G Lee Terry G Bradley Barbosa
I mean there is no sense in sending Bass away and you get someone very obviously better than he is, if the idea is to help KG up front
Meanwhile, Doc isn't play Wilcox much so its hard to be confident a lateral move will help.
If we can send others plus picks and get a decent guy ok but I have no idea who that is

Give them melo and that should do it. He a min deal and hes walking at end of season. Hes also one of the worst defenders in the NBA. I dont doubt Bass would average 12 and 10 or close, but with.far superior defense than hickson
