If we all remember, we picked him up last minute off the scrap heap, for the vets min. We didn't appear to need him at the time but we signed him anyway.

He is obviously a gifted scorer, a very capable defender, a good ball-handler, and has earned the nickname blur with his athleticism. We got him super cheap and has done nothing but produce with given minutes. Only downside is he may be a little undersized.

Maybe I'm too high on him, but why did nobody want him?

Dumb GMs - same reason nobody wants Kenyon Martin or wanted Chris Andersen for so long.

I believe teams wanted him.  I think he just wanted to be part of the Celtics more than anything.  I recall what Danny said couple weeks ago that he told Barbosa before signing him that he won't see a lot of minutes but he still chose to come to Boston.  And for the kind of money we're paying him, you know he really wanted to be part of the Celtics more than anything else.

There are so many guards in the NBA that fit into his level of talent.   There usually a few out there that teams can sign late in the process that can contribute to a successful team.

It just happens that this season, Barbosa was one of those players waiting in limbo.

My guess is he went the Pietrus route - got some vet min offers but thought he deserved more.  Free agent musical chairs continues until suddenly there are few spots and less money available.  So he took the best vet min situation he could get, which was here.  Only real difference is Pietrus was in less demand and so had to wait longer after the initial offers dried up.

It's a good question. He's been solid for years, but maybe suddenly was getting overlooked for 'higher upside' or younger guys. Who knows.

I thought the Celtics wanted him. That's why they signed him right?

Because he is hot and cold and isn't all that easy to fit in.

Chris Andersen had injury and legal issues, so it isn't a huge surprise that GMs weren't lining up to take a chance with him.

As for Kenyon Martin, I personally think he is incredibly overrated anyway, so I am on the GM's side.

I agree with those who said that the team appealed to him.

Reportedly, the teams that were interested in him were the Lakers and Nets.  He was probably shopping around for a team that would give him more money or more playing time and didn't find a good match.
