Can we trade franchises?
Oh, even better question:

If you have the Charlotte Bobcats and someone offers you LeBron James for your entire franchise, do you make the trade? One player for an entire franchise? Do you do it?

A player is useless without a franchise.

Couple questions:

1st-How is it determined which franchise you get?

2nd-When do you guys plan on doing this?

3rd-Just out of curiosity, why use the actual tax line, when in reality that isn't necessarily the limit each team is constrained by?  At the very least, the apron is the "real" limit, and for some teams (who haven't used the full mle) they can go as high as they want.  Just seems arbitrary.

About time!

There is a draft. All the players are put into a random pool, and you get a number. Lowest number picks the team first.

Also, if you need help keeping a draftboard or available players thread or something like that, I give a hand.

Yes, please.  If you want to go ahead and start a couple of posts for the Draft board and the available players now, I'll lock it until draft time.  That way, you'll have editing privileges.

When are the draft times?

There will probably be an afternoon session and an evening session.  Once we have everyone signed up, we can determine if there's a huge preference for keeping the draft 9-5, or whether people need time at night.  The default will be to do whatever we did last year.

Franchise swaps *will* be allowed prior to Day 1 of the draft, so if a certain time slot doesn't work, you can always trade out of it.

1.  There's a lottery.  The GM with the best pick in that lottery selects their franchise.  Then, players are drafted in reverse order of that lottery.  So, the team that selects their franchise first gets last pick of players.  Also, this draft does NOT snake; the draft order is the same in every round.

2.  That's still to be decided.  We need to gauge interest, and then we'll figure out a schedule.  It will start in the next two weeks, though.

3.  There's not a lot that's arbitrary about it.  Teams were given their actual payroll or the luxury tax, whichever was higher.  The vast majority of teams don't spend up to the tax, so they're actually being given a handicap here.  If, however, we play with significantly less than 30 franchises, we may bump the budgets up a little.

Hopefully you can participate as a commenter or something.  You'll be missed this year.
