He would've been one of the greatest Celtics ever, much less one of the greatest players of all-time. I would've rooted for him, no question. Even now, while I can't stand the Lakers and hope they never win another game  , I still have a lot of respect for Kobe - especially now. The man is sharing the rock even more than he did before. |

Yeah...forgot that I guess.
Probably means we would have been too good to be in position to draft Pierce....and Kobe still forces his way out.
So glad it worked out the way it did.
I'm assuming then, Antoine was drafted ahead of Kobe. Which is hilarious.
Yup. And truthfully, drafting Kobe likely would have led to much better results that actually occured for us.
Antoine was drafted right around where he should have been and we should be happy with the level of competitiveness he showed while he was here. Other than Pierce, it's not like the roster was filled with all-stars.
I am sure the Mavs who selected Samaki Walker at 9 and the Warriors who selected Todd Fuller at 11 are even more upset that they didn't take Kobe, Nash, or Jermaine. They probably would have killed for Antoine, too.
after that rookie year, Antoine was looking like the steal of the draft at #6. Iverson, Marbury and Ray Allen all looked like players but Antoine looked like a legit PF his first and that he'd turn into a very special player. Then Pitino showed up and screwed him all up.  |

If I remember correctly, Kobe had pretty much said that he would only play for LA or Chicago.
Kobe was coming out of high school and was drafted in the teens. He had no power to demand anything. Face it; Jerry West is simply smarter than most.
Read up on what his agent did in that draft |
