I guess it is always possible to hate a player on the team you love.

Celtics whiffed on many players back in the day. McGrady the draft after Kobe.
Revisionist history is both fun and painful.

If I remember correctly, Kobe had pretty much said that he would only play for LA or Chicago.

would have supported him as a Celtic as I do everyone else that joins the team. don't have to like them, but I'd support them.

Root for the laundry.
Would've been a Kobe fan. No doubt. Just like I would've hated Pierce if he was drafted by the Lakers and played out his career there.

Kobe was coming out of high school and was drafted in the teens. He had no power to demand anything. Face it; Jerry West is simply smarter than most.

Kobe and Antoine playing together....yeah that would have been fun(ny).
Kobe would have forced his way out pretty quickly. He was made for LA (the epicenter of all DB's)

In fact, we took Antoine the same year kobe was drafted. So it would have been one or the other, not both.

Yeah...forgot that I guess.
Probably means we would have been too good to be in position to draft Pierce....and Kobe still forces his way out.
So glad it worked out the way it did.
I'm assuming then, Antoine was drafted ahead of Kobe. Which is hilarious.

Yup. And truthfully, drafting Kobe likely would have led to much better results that actually occured for us.

Antoine was drafted right around where he should have been and we should be happy with the level of competitiveness he showed while he was here. Other than Pierce, it's not like the roster was filled with all-stars. I am sure the Mavs who selected Samaki Walker at 9 and the Warriors who selected Todd Fuller at 11 are even more upset that they didn't take Kobe, Nash, or Jermaine. They probably would have killed for Antoine, too.
