League sources tell USA Today's Alex Kennedy that the Suns are trying to trade for Hawks F Josh Smith.
Kennedy reports that if the Suns are unable to acquire Smith by the trade deadline, they'll pursue him in a sign-and-trade during free agency. Kennedy speculates Phoenix's package could start with C Marcin Gortat, who has struggled a bit since Lindsey Hunter took over as the Suns' coach. Smith figures to be at the centerpiece of most of this year's deadline rumors and Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday that expectations are growing Smith will be dealt prior to the Feb. 21 deadline.

How come? If Phoenix offers him a max deal, would he turn that down?

No he wouldn't. Not if he is designated as the 5th year franchise player.

Yeah I don't think Josh Smith would turn down a 5 year max deal from any franchise that offers it.

I haven't heard that Atlanta has been willing to give him that.

Good grief: The Suns are just dying to become more of a clustercluck of talent than the Kings.

I just hope someone can find a way for Jared Dudley to get out of there so he can become a useful role player on a contender.

The Suns are run by bad owners. Heck, they dont know what they doing. If Smith want to win, he will go somwhere else. But if all he cares about is money, then he would sign with Phoenix if they offer max deal

Contrary to a previous item, the Suns are reportedly not interested in trading for Josh Smith.
Earlier today there were rumors of the Suns trying to trade a package that included Marcin Gortat for J-Smoove. The trade rumors are going to fly around at a head-spinning pace over the next month, so be prepared to hear all sorts of ideas from various sources. We'll let you know if either side of the story picks up any steam.

The stories about the Suns being interested in Josh Smith are ridiculous, there is zero interest there -ZERO!

It seems AlexKennedyNBA and Gambo620 are twitter fighting saying their story is true

Seconded. And in a bigger media market so that his twitter gets bigger celebrity cameos. Just shhh and imagine Dudley on the Clippers without Bulter.

It would be twitter magic. Deadspin and Grantland would both ritually kill an intern in sacrifice to make this happen.
