for this year and next. Any way DA can stock up on first rounders he should do! We've only got our one first rounder this year and no second, and with rebuilding on the horizon(either very near or not so distant--which ever camp you're in) picks and trades are the only way to go! Freeing up cap space will do no good, as we never attract the best FA's here, and certainly won't when we are going into rebuilding mode! There are a few teams with multiple picks. If Danny can pull the right trades and nab 2 or 3 of these, let him work his magic. Anybody but the young guys on the team should be fair game for deals. With RR, AB, Sully, Melo, and maybe JG and CL, we've got a pretty good core of young players to build on, so with a couple of the right deals and a little luck in the draft/s, we might be in pretty good shape sooner than you think!

How are we going to get that. We have no tradeable assets to net us youngs or draft picks.

There will be picks for sale in this year's draft. I suspect the Cs will be in the market, particularly if Pierce is traded or cut and / or KG is traded or retires.

"We need draft picks and young talent"
doesn't this pretty much apply to every team?

The Celtics have two second-round picks in the next two drafts. Second-round picks are more useful than a lot of posters here seem to think.
The Celtics should probably keep together their roster for next season and won't have much in the way of roster spots or playing time. If Fab Melo continues to be a project who is not NBA-ready by the start of next season, it will be hard for the team to take on another project.
The Celtics should be considering dealing this year's first-round pick (and Ainge has been reported to want to do so) and using at least one second-round pick on a Euro player who won't be available for a season or two.

The C's do not have a second round pick this year! It was traded to Portland. Next years 2nd is up in the air due to a number of conditional due, possibly, from other teams.

DA may trade PP and/or KG(if consented) for expirings and draft picks, or acquire picks, as a third team, facilitating trades for others!

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=agfpv28with OKC sending Toronto's 1st, and BOS sending their 1st, essentially swapping picks. If we are going to trade Pierce or/and Garnett, I want them to go to a team that can smash the Heat. We get some decent young players (Lamb, Jones, Maynor), and OKC basically get a 8-man rotation of Westbrook Sefolosha Durant Ibaka Garnett Jackson Pierce Collison

As ssspence says, there will be picks for sale in this year's coming draft. If Ainge sees a guy he wants, he'll figure out a way to get him. While the Celtics have no 2013 2nd rounder (going to Portland), Boston owns Brooklyn's 2nd rounder next year, plus its own. I know of no contingencies or protections on the Brooklyn pick. http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/detailed

Easier said than done. The problem with this plan is any contender we could trade KG and/or Pierce to like their young pieces. Plus, I think only OKC and Chicago have picks we would actually want (Toronto and Charlotte, respectively).
