say KG decides to retire after this year. KG would be 12.4 mil off the books, you can then cut PP and only have 4 mil count against the cap.

so that would bring the team salary down from 70 mil to around 46 or 47 mil for next season.

The salary cap for this season is 58 mil , so we would have about 10 -12 mil to spend.

If Danny can trade Bass and/or terry for expiring contracts , we could actually have enough money to offer a max contract next season.

Give Rondo a 5-year deal eventually! Or Sully!

Players to get next season for max which Im not sure we could do is...

Josh Smith
OJ Mayo
Andre Iguodala
Chris Paul(not happening)
Dwight Howard
Tyreke Evans(restricted)
Big Al
Paul Millsap

Could get Smith,Mayo,Evans,Millsap, and maybe Big Al for that money.

No body that will save the franchise, but this might be the future for a little while...:(

if you can clear enough money(trading bass and Jet for expiring) you can probably have a shot at adding smith and Mayo

PG: Rondo  / Bradley
SG: Mayo   / Lee
SF: Green  / ?
PF: Smith  / Sully
 c: ?      / Melo

Not a bad start for the rebuild

I could live with that for a season or two. Team could be fun to watch at least.

This.  You don't get out of a contract just because the player retires.

If a player formally retires with the league and decides to forego his remaining salary, his salary is removed from the books, I believe.

Just trade them. That'll get 'em of the books.

I agree , but obviously only if you can get expiring contracts back. If nothing else at least you'll pick up a few draft picks and make sure to be in a good position with the team salary entering free agency next year with enough cap space to make moves.

I feel like this would make the most sense.

From what I see, illness or injury is required. But I see some language that insinuates payment towards the player at the discretion of the team.

So if we continue paying KG, that will count towards the salary cap. The faq is not very clear on the issue.

On twitter John Duke said that even if KG and Pierce retired they would only have $4 MM of cap space.

I read that 5MM of Pierce's contract is guaranteed next year. Duke believes that this is true even if Pierce retires? This doesn't make sense to me does anyone agree with this?
