Particularly now that Rondo is out, trading Pierce for Gay would make us worse for this season.  We need the Captain to handle the ball and play point forward from here on out.  I don't think that's a role that Gay can play.

As for the future, I'm not sure that I like Gay's very large contract as a part of building the next phase of the Boston Celtics.

Never trade my captain.

Pierce should retire a Celtic

Comments like this make me sick to my stomach. You people have to look at the bigger picture and not the one that means absolutely nothing.

Pierces number will be hung regardless and always be remembered. He doesn't need to retire a celtic for that to happen, it means nothing.

It makes me sick to think that people would want to trade our captain.

I always put the team first. Not going to ignore moves that will help us going forward for sentimental reasons.

I think you guys are missing the point here. There's a third option besides "trade" or "retirement", which is "cut".

If the Cs don't trade Pierce -- either before the deadline or before the draft -- there's a strong chance they'd simply terminate his deal this summer. And then you get nothing for Pierce, and he retires somewhere else.
