James Naismith to Dickey Betts for the jam.....

While Memphis has accomplished getting under the tax line, it's clear they're still open to trading Rudy Gay. A guy like Pierce allows them to take a crack at a title this year, yet have flexibility for the future. Gay's got lumps, but is 10 years younger. So... would you trade them straight up?

Nah. He's not worth that money. He will cripple your salary cap. Pierce to Gay is a downgrade.

You don't pay guys nearly 20 mill a year when they're not even a top 20 player.

Is Pierce a Top 20 player? Combined, Green and Bass = roughly Rudy Gay.. which would you rather have?

The Cs are, by NBA standards, a big market team. Gay's far from perfect, and his deal has always been too big, but i think dismissing him based on contract alone is wasteful.

Moreover, the Cs aren't going to have **** for cap room over the next two years. So I'm not sure why I care about his salary if he's a meaningful long term upgrade that will keep Rondo pumped.

We are paying PP at the same amount. And if PP doesn't improve his play I don't think Gay would be a down grade. At least he may not fumble the ball out of bounds at the end of the game.

There's a reason the Grizz are looking to move Gay.

Tying up that much of your cap in a player like Rudy Gay just doesn't make that much sense.

agree and in situations like miami heat the experienced we need is on pierce, gay can hit 3points but pierce has the veteran experienced at his age when he scored 40 points? man what can i say, he deserves to be one of those hall of famers

Gay is an above average guy who has an All-Star game here an then. I don't know if I would do it.

Y E S.    I have had it with The Captain... He needs to come off the bench  to be honest

We should trade paul pierce and not make the same mistake with ray...losing him for nothing is the worst thing you could possibly hope for...his legacy in Boston will not be tarnished and he will forever be appreciated but its time to move on...again if he cant be traded then sit him or bring him off thr bench and play him an efficient 25 min a game.

Nope.

While a very talented player, no way that Gay leads BOS deep into the playoffs.

I'd rather keep the wily, playoff-tested, clutch veteran in Paul Pierce.

It's not Pierce's fault, Rondo's or KG's as the reason why we're losing.

As much as I like Brandon Bass, he just hasn't given us much, unfortunately.

KG is getting beat up inside...Rudy Gay won't help that.

Let The Captain retire as a Boston Celtic.

Pierce is such a better play maker, a much better shooter, more efficient scorer, and probably still a better defender at this point.

This shouldn't even be a discussion, let alone a 50/50 vote.  Who the heck wants to start 3 slashers?!  But hey, maybe he''ll get hurt and then our team will start playing better!

I voted No, and not because I don't think PP should be traded, I think that he should.

Next to RR, PP is our most valuable asset, both for his play and his contract.

I think that the two LA teams are our best potential trade partners. I'm sure that there might be others, but they are not jumping out at me at the moment.

We either need to get a big back for him (like Gasol)or  a package of a young stud like Bledsoe, expirings and picks.

I'd prefer the former for the present, but would take the latter for the future.

Again, I simply don't follow this logic. The Cs have no cap space. If they simply cut Pierce in the offseason, there will be no cap room created in the process. This is the reason the Ca overpaid for guys like Bass and Green in the offseason -- the alternative was min contracts.

My question was really related more to Gay the player than Gay the contract. I'm not sure the Ca could get more for Pierce from other logical spots like the Clippers.

The only reason I see for not making this deal is that you want Pierce to retire a Celtic.

This team does not look like they are going to compete for a title right now, if that is the case we need to make move that could help us in the future. This is one such move.
