Not advocating for or against, but curious to know who among the "trade Paul Pierce and promote JG" crowd (if there is such a thing) would do this trade: BOSTON TRADES Pierce Terry Barbosa Collins Rights to Brooklyn's 2014 2nd Rnd pick BOSTON GETS Asik Korver Lin Houston's 2014 1st Rnd pick (unprotected) ATLANTA TRADES Smith Korver ATLANTA GETS Pierce Morris Barbosa Houston's 2015 1st Rnd pick Brooklyn's 2014 2nd Rnd pick via Boston HOUSTON TRADES Asik Morris Lin 2014 and 2015 1st Rnd picks HOUSTON GETS Smith Terry Collins http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ah8vkbaWe'd need depth at the 3 so after the deadline... Celtics sign Donte Greene or best available off waiver wire Rondo/Lin Bradley/Korver/Lee Green/Greene/? Sullinger/Bass/Wilcox Garnett/Asik/Melo Only if Hawks convinced Smith won't resign even then ATL still says no Thoughts?

No. I would want an All-Star Caliber player in return for any of our big three.

Asik for Pierce!?
It's not nearly as ridiculous as it sounds as Asik is actually good, but I would much rather have Smith if we are dealing away Pierce...

Lin doesn't have an awful contract. He had an awful contract for the Knicks.
Morey's probably the most numbers-savvy GM in the league, so no way he gives up Lin, Morris and Asik (not to mention the draft picks) for Josh Smith and a 36 year old Terry.

No. I would want an All-Star Caliber player in return for any of our big three. I'm not talking about trading Rondo (or Garnett with his trade clause); I'm talking about trading 35 yo Paul Pierce, considering his play and production lately, for some producing players in positions of need for the Celtics (center, back up pg) AND a potential lottery pick in an allegedly stacked draft. The question is: can we realistically get more for PP and are we willing to settle for what he currently brings to the table?

Why would we want that Lins contract. Already have an iffy one with Green. Its not a very good trade for us. If we are trading PP its for something that even he would say, "Yeah I do that to". Not for three roll players...

Why would we want that Lins contract. Already have an iffy one with Green. We give an iffy one in Terry. R U satisfied with the status quo? Willing to see the deadline come and go with no moves by Ainge? You have to give to get. Are you one who sees KG, Rondo, AB, Sully, Fab Melo as less expendable with an eye to the future of this franchise than Pierce. I addressed this thread VERY specifically to the "trade PP" crowd. If you don't want to trade the Captain, then sentimentally, I'm with you. I think Lin is poorly suited to a starters role, but could be more of a true backup point than Terry, Barbosa, AB etc.

No Im not satisfied with some of the players. But I would trade just to bring new players in. We would get an okay center, an okay PG and and okay SG, of for PP. Want to get rid of Terry, yeah trade him and Barbosa for Lin and that I could get behind. But PP for Asik and Kover...No thank you. Its a bit of an insult to the Captain. At least when DA have traded Allen before it got pulled he was bringing in Mayo.

No, Lins contract is awful. And as much as I respect Morey, he blundered on that one. I give the big NO to the OPs trade idea.
