That's just hilarious! Why don't they just get back 'Jazz' from Utah? I can only imagine what their logo would look like.. I mean , can't they think of a , well, 'meaner' nickname for a pro basketball team?

Sorry, just my opinion..

I actually like the name. Its unique and sounds good. I feel like the whole "aggressive animal" trend in pro sports is getting tiring and its kind of juvenile.

i mean, look at the patriots, red sox, or celtics. those are not "mean" or "aggressive" names, but these names have a lot more personality than the "bears" and "eagles" team names. Uniqueness goes a long way.

With the 1st pick in the 2013 NBA draft, the Charlotte Hornets select Shabazz Mohommad from UCLA.

With the 2nd pick in the 2013 NBA draft, the Seattle SuperSonics select Nerlens Noel from the University of Kentucky.

With the 3rd pick in the 2013 NBA draft, the New Orleans Pelicans select Cody Zeller from Indiana University.

yes really. It is the state bird here in Louisiana. Plus there was a baseball team in the southern league many years ago called the New Orleans Pelicans.

Pelicans is just a completely unprofessional sounding name.

Sounds like some middle school team or something.

My 'pet' name for the sox is Red Sux... but sure, sounds professional to me.

Pelicans is every bit as bad as Wizards.

Have to admit, if I were looking to name a team, and it came down to using the name of an animal, "peilican" wouldn't even come close to making the list. It's a pretty goofy name, and really carries no redeeming features to parallel to a sports teams' strengths, (unless, of course, they're good at carrying fish in their mouths, or pooping on bridges).
