You have to throw in Collins to make the salaries work. Take it or leave it Hawks. If you don't trade him he just signs as a free agent to play with his boy Rondo.

We dont have the cap room to outright sign.
Not to mention I dont want him for max (or near max) money which is probably what we would need.

I would do this even for a season rental though just think the Hawks will get something better if/when they trade him (which they really should do)

c's are well over the cap, no way he can sign here. Don't count on a s+t either because why would the Hawks give him a max contract and then take on the salary to match smith's max going out ?

I would trade for him this year though if we could get a third team involved .

Green, Melo, 2 1st rd picks  to atl
Bass is sent to a third team in exchange for an expiring contract going to Atlanta instead of Bass' contract .

PG: Rondo     / Terry
SG: Bradley   / Lee
SF: PP        / FA
PF: Smith     / Sully
C: KG        / Collins or vet min

You'll have to give up more for them to take equal salary. You'd probably be saying good-bye to Bradley and Sullinger.

Not worth it imo. Just move some people, shift some money, and sign him when he's a FA.

Total misunderstanding of cap management for both the Hawks and Cs.

Never ever ever ever ever happen.
