So I should preface by saying I’m pretty happy with the C’s roster overall, and do not think there are many obtainable players who would make the team better without costing too much in either present or future assets. Still, if they could improve in one place, it would be to have a true, starting caliber center. In that end, here is my absurd idea.
Boston trades:
Brandon Bass
Milwaukee trades:
Samuel Dalembert
Phoenix trades:
Jared Dudley
Marcin Gortat
Memphis trades:
Rudy Gay
Boston receives:
Marcin Gortat
Milwaukee receives:
Brandon Bass
Phoenix receives:
Rudy Gay
Memphis receives:
Jared Dudley
Samuel Dalembert
My premise states why I think this trade makes sense for Boston. For Phoenix, they get Gay, whom they apparently want, and get rid of Gortat, whom they apparently don’t want. Memphis gets to salary dump. They save a couple million this year, $13.5 million next year, and about $15 million the following year (Rudy Gay’s contract is terrible!) while at the same time remaining competitive. Milwaukee can insert Bass back into the first-big-off-the-bench role that he’s well suited for, taking away Gooden’s minutes and the traded Dalembert’s. His contract is affordable for the next two seasons.
The salaries all work out (EDIT: Sebastian Telfair was originally included, but is not needed to make salaries work.) Do picks need to change hands? If so, who gives them up, and who gets them?
