Parsons, Rivers go back a long way
When asked how Doc Rivers, the coach of the Boston Celtics, knows him so well and long, Rockets forward Chandler Parsons responded with a question of his own.
“How does the coach of the Boston Celtics not draft me?” Parsons said.

The Rockets picked up Parsons in the second round of the 2011 draft after the Celtics took forward JaJuan Johnson with the 25th pick that season. The Rockets acquired Johnson in the sign-and-trade deal that sent Courtney Lee to Boston, but cut him before the season.

“I thought I was going to go to the Celtics, 100 percent,” Parsons said of the draft that season. “That was probably my best workout. I killed it.”

Parsons grew up about five minutes away from Rivers’ home in Winter Park, Fla. He played at the rival high school, Winter Park Lake Howell and played with Rivers’ son Jeremiah Rivers on an AAU team, often working out with Rivers’ children.

“I’ve known Chandler since sixth grade,” Rivers said. “Watching him turn into the player he has is really nice.”

Rivers certainly has minimal input when it comes to drafting players. I'm sure he mentioned Chandler but Danny and co didn't listen or had him lower in their rankings.

We needed length upfront and it was a mistake to let this kid slip by. I'm sure 20 other teams feel this way.

He was unconscious tonight against us , and reading the history, i can see why. He is ticked off he is not a celtic. I would love to have him on the team.

Eh, hindsight is 20/20. On the other hand, we drafted Rondo, Avery, and Sully between 19-21, so you win some, you lose some (Giddens, JJJ, etc.) in the draft.

Doc also doesn't BS and even though Parsons is buddies with his fam it doesn't mean he walked into Danny's office and said "draft him."  If I recall correctly, Parsons was rated as a 2nd round pick and probably went off the board around the time he was supposed to.  Heck, people thought we reached for JJJ, who was an All American.

It happens.  Grats to Parsons for making the most of his opportunity.

Parsons certainly would have made Green expendable.  One of the few examples of a player the Celtics could theoretically have had on the cheap who would be better than Green.

Not so fast I say, Doc doesnt give rooks much run and I am not so sure he gets much of a chance like he did/does in Houston.

Reading some of the older JaJuan threads is funny now. Quite a few posters here compared him to Marcus Camby, David West and KG. I even read his timing was similar to Bill Russell.

Sullinger fills a need and we are desparate for anyone who resembles a post player that can rebound. He has stepped up to be sure and that is why he plays.

Parsons would be buried behind Green and Pierce. To say otherwise is ludicrous.
