But I'm hoping I'm not talking like it's long-term or for the season, or anything like that. I'm still optimistic that he'll be able to play this year until the doctors tell me something different."

If he does have a quad tear as Brazilian media has reported, then the Cavs just failed to sell high...again. They could've had Amare, but balked when Phoenix wanted Hickson.

Again? My god. That injury-prone tag is going to be hard to shift now.

On the plus side, this is good news for Cleveland. Losing Varejao will cost them pointless victories and help them improve their lottery position.

They should be a near-certainty for another top five pick now.

I don't believe that the Cavs passed on Amar'e for Hickson, I think Suns passed on that trade.

Yeah, that's four years in a row now right?

In 09-10 he was hobbled and couldn't play big minutes versus the C's irrc. (only 23 MPG compared to 30 MPG in 08-09) Though he lasted the whole regular season just fine that year,.

Since then he has played 31 games, 25 games, and 25 games.

I heard 6-8 weeks.  Which puts it really close to the trade deadline (which is about 6 weeks away I believe).

At the very least, his trade value just took a huge hit.

I am a little relieved actually.  I was afraid Danny would panic and pay a premium for Varajao, and then have him miss key parts of the playoff run.

They may not need a superstar, per se, since they already have Irving.  They just need to continue building around him and hope that 2 of Zeller, Waiters, Thompson, and next year's pick blossom into very good players.

Bolded is why I never blame LeBron for leaving.  They didn't do it and then they didn't play Hickson, who was playing very well for them, at all in the playoffs.  Joke.  Absolutely ridiculous.

Anyways,

Yes.  Should have traded him high.  He's a good player of course but he's the type of player that doesn't help this team much.  Might as well give Zeller and Thompson as much PT as possible and tank for lotto picks.

Cody Zeller should be a top pick. His game will translate very well to the NBA, where PGs know how to get a big the ball.

If you had both the Zeller brothers you would have some of the most mobile bigs in the NBA.  Legit 7 footers too.

Good news is this means one less player that we have to read about bogus trade rumors for.

As others have said, this will help Cleveland tank for much needed talent.

However, it's a shame to see a guy who was playing so well miss the rest of the season.  He could have been a major factor for some team in the post-season if the Cavs finally traded him.  And the Cavs could have gotten some decent value for him by selling high.

Definitely seemed like Sideshow is injury prone though.
