Griz CEO Jason Levien, whom principal owner Robert Pera has entrusted to run the franchise, is gauging the value of several players on the roster. There also have been exploratory trade conversations centered on forward Zach Randolph.
The Sacramento Kings are one of the teams that the Griz recently held preliminary talks with, according to a league source. http://www.cbssports.com/nba/blog/eye-on-basketball/21520826/report-grizzlies-also-considering-trading-zach-randolphWow, he would be awesome next to KG . Probably can't match salaries with anything they want though . Oh well we have a young Randolph in the making with Sully .

OJ Mayo is gone Rudy Gay is up for sale now Z-Bo?
What gives?

My guess is they're just gauging his worth and not really seriously looking to move him, but the big takeaway is probably that Memphis is desperate to get out of the luxury tax any way they can.

can someone explain to me what the Grizzlies are trying to do?
they finally are one of the better teams in the NBA AND...they want to gut the team of their talent that has gotten them there.

I can understand shipping out Gay for a couple of more affordable guys who can fill his role if it's going to save the new owners serious money, but gutting a contending team to get under the tax line your first year owning the team is disgusting.
The strength of the Griz is in the Gasol/Zach combo. Breaking it up would be a huge mistake.

I'd imagine this is simply testing the market. High doubtful both Gay and Randolph are traded. One might possibly be.
Gay is probably their 1st preference, but maybe Randolph gets a better return.
Otherwise, that would be sad if the league didn't properly vet the new owner as to his intentions once he got the team. Then again, the laegue ould possibly not care.

Hollinger In Da House!
Reports surface that the Grizzlies have traded Z-Bo and Rudy Gay for Anthony Randolph and cash considerations.

Memphis should concentrate on getting better fitting perimeter role players.
Defender/shooter types. Like what they had in Shane Battier before they unforgivably pushed him out the door. Battier was such a key complementary piece in that playoff run. It's what, two years later? They still miss him. Idiots (Grizzlies front office).

Memphis can trade Gay and still be competitive. They looked just fine with Battier at SF a couple years ago.
Z-Bo is absolutely essential to what they do well, though. Not going anywhere without him. He's their #1 option.
