Alex Kennedy saying the Cs have talked to Memphis about Gay.

I'm pretty sure Danny's kicked the tires on every player of significance out there.  Gay makes no sense for us for a lot of reasons, though.

If it's Gay, Green is probably involved.
I would do it in a heartbeat for Green

Hollinger hates Green and his contract, so it's not going to happen.

Good call. Just Danny kicking the tires. Has to be trying to get in on a three team deal. Gay would be great but I don't see how he fits in.

I thought Phoenix's front office was incredibly cheap?  Why would they take Gay's contract?

And what's in it for Memphis?  I get that they was to avoid the luxury tax, but they won't get good value back if they trade with Phoenix.  They need to find another team.

I'd be extremely surprised if Sarver gets on the hook for Gay's contract. Shocked, actually. No way do I see the Suns doing this, unless they are flipping him or a third team is involved.

Sarver likes youngs (small contracts), expirings and draft picks.

They offered the max to Eric Gordon this summer. Rudy Gay is right up their alley.

Rudy Gay will be a fixture on the NBA's top ten scorer list for the next 6-8 years.

Forget the 17.6ppg or whatever people were talking about earlier in this thread. The only reason he isn't scoring 20+ppg already is because he has accepted a smaller role offensively in Memphis to make their Z-Bo / M.Gasol pound it into paint game plan work.

Rudy Gay can create a good quality shot attempt against absolutely every defender / team defense in the NBA. He doesn't create enough high percentage attempts but being able to get a good quality shot attempt at any moment is a very valuable skill come playoff time.

Rudy Gay is a very strong defensive player (much better than J.Dudley) who's mix of size, length and athleticism is extremely difficult for opposing scorers to deal with. He is a solid possession creator with rebounds and forced turnovers.

This guy is a stud. A strong two way player who rebounds. Hugely valuable player.

If Memphis dump Gay, it will be a catastrophic mistake for their long term future. Gay, along with M.Gasol, is one of the two guys Memphis should be planning their long term future around.

Jared Dudley would be great for Memphis to play behind Rudy Gay. To replace S.Battier.

Memphis should offer up a package of draft picks for him. Give them Speights or D.Arthur and Pondexter. Cut a few million of their payroll in the process. Then try to deal Bayless for a cheaper PG to make up the rest to get them below the luxury tax threshold.

How about Bogut for Green and Lee?

That can only help them right?

Hmm...Give up our only backup SF and our only other player who (at a squeeze) can play SF in return for a big who has played a total of 16 games in the last two seasons?
yep, green goes out a sf has to HAS TO be coming back

My thoughts about Gay and three trades that would make sense for him. Spoiler Alert the first involves Boston getting Gortat. Let me know what you think http://pickandpopdiaries.blogspot.com/2013/01/rudy-gay-trade-derby.html
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Toronto is said to be offering Calderon's expiring, Ed Davis, and future picks for Gay.

Lowry, DeRozan, and Gay is a nice troika to build around. Jonas V, too.

Doesn't make sense for Memphis.  You don't trade Gay for an upgrade at backup PG.  They don't need another PF, either.

Yeah that Toronto offer isn't going to work for Gay.

Agreed. Calderon is nice, but a pricey backup. However, he could be flipped.

And you're right: Griz don't really need another young big, with Darrell Arthur waiting in the wings.

Maybe a third team would be involved to take Calderon and Davis. Not sure who would have interest in those two though.

Interesting, definitely makes some sense for all teams involved. But leaves Memphis pretty thin at small forward. I'd wonder if they'd prefer to take in Jeff Green rather than Dudley. They'd lose some savings, and have to make smaller moves to get under the tax line (shed about 2mil more), but from a team balance stand point, it seems to make more sense.

Of course, they would then leave the Celtics very thin at SF, and likely needing to add a player to back up Pierce.

That Toronto offer is just the worst.

Though with the fact that they are even trying to trade Gay, we have to consider almost anything could be accepted even if it doesn't make basketball sense, because this is a team that apparently cares more about the money than the shot at a title.
