Celtics recall Fab Melo from the D-League. Despite a recent streak of dominance in the D-League, it would be a major surprise if Melo earned any meaningful playing time while with the Celtics.

I thought they were only going to recall Fab Melo if he was going to receive playing time here.

Unless it's just a call up for a few days both to remind him that he is in their plans + as a sort of reward for playing well recently ... I would expect Fab Melo to get some playing time coming off the bench.

Claws are off until Friday.  So, he is down here to practice with the C's today and tomorrow, and sit on the bench tonight so KG can whisper in his ear, then its back on the bus to Portland on Friday.

Forsberg believes it's so he can get treatment for the mild concussion he sustained.

Yeah, they need to recalled in order to receive treatment. The same thing happened earlier this season with Melo, with what I believe was a quad contusion.

That's sort of a dumb way to run things.

Teams shouldn't have to recall guy when they have injuries and want to treat them.

Here was Doc on why they recalled Melo in early December:

Quote
Rivers also explained a bit of NBA procedural logistics that explained why Fab Melo (strained quadriceps) was recalled by the Celtics for a non-game day before being sent back out today to the Maine Red Claws of the D-League.

“He was injured so the new [CBA] rules are that if you bring him back [from D-League for medical treatment], you have to activate him,” Rivers said. “We had to activate him because he was with us.”

That is just plain stupid.  Why on Earth does a player need to be recalled to recieve medical treatment?  Makes no sense.

The Celtics own his contract, and are the team paying him, regardless of where he plays.

Why does it matter?  There is no limit to call ups and send downs, and it doesn't affect their roster one way or another.

Sure, when no game is due to be played that day.  Doesn't calling a player up also mean another player has to be de-activated?

Nope.  They can call him up, but still have him as inactive.
