Simple trade.

Boston sends: Courtney Lee, Jason Collins
Minnesota sends: Luke Ridnour, Greg Stiemsma

Boston gets a true back up point and a bench big who knows the system and hustles.

Minnesota gets a needed shooting guard and veteran big man.

Thoughts?

Yeah, I agree.

I think Ridnour for Lee in a straight swap is a fair trade. Adding Stiemsma but bringing nothing extra to the table is a deal breaker.

Adding a 2013 second round pick should do the trick.

Probably two second rounders. High ones. In the 30-40 range. Or at least one high one (30-40) and one middle of the pack (40-50) one.

Does Boston own anyone else's 2nd rounders? Do they have a high one coming in from elsewhere? I don't think Boston's own 2nd round picks are going to be valued enough to swing the deal.

Steamer isn't getting any playing time in Minny. I'd like him back and I'd trade to get him. I'm not sure how much exactly but I do think he should be on our radar.

If Danny wanted Stiemsma he could have signed him outright for a few bucks more than we offered.  I can't see giving up valuable assets for him now, makes no sense.

People forget that Stiemsma was a poor help defender when he was here; he frequently missed his rotational assignment.

i am sure the Celtics wanted stiemsma back but i thought
the Celtics could only offer the Bi-Annual exception of $1.5 million that's why they couldn't match the Wolves offer

Minnesota sends: Luke Ridnour, Greg Stiemsma

Minnesota gets a needed shooting guard and veteran big man.

I really like this trade. I'm assuming Minnesota wouldn't have any interest in Collins but I'd be happy to offer Barbosa + Lee instead.  I think this would be enough to make the trade happen, and Barbosa has had the biggest net negative rating of anybody on our roster so far.

This gives us:

Starters
Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
Bass
Garnett

Bench
Ridnour
Terry
Green
Sullinger/Wilcox
Stiemsma/Wilcox

I honestly believe we still need a pure scorer to bring the offense when Pierce sits (check my recent statistics thread to see why) but this is a pretty affordable trade which solves two of our major weaknesses - Interior defense and backup PG.

Stiemsma is by no means an elite defensive big,  but he's nearly 7 feet tall, he's a shotblocking threat, he's a decent rebounder - that's enough to help intimidate anyone who attacks the paint, which is good enough for me.

Plus it still leaves us with Bass, Green and picks in case another good trade opportunity appears.

One of the rare trade ideas that has come up here that I've actually really liked!!

Ridnour would be a solid addition as a backup PG like Cassell 5 years ago!

I'd like the idea, and think it's possible Minny might go for it.  I'd expand the idea though and include Phoenix in it.  From a pragmatic standpoint it would best the best use of Lee's $5m salary.

BOS:
      In: Gortat, Steimsma
      Out: Lee, Sullinger, Melo, Joseph

Phx:
In: Sullinger, Melo, Joseph, Hayward (30th pick-'12)
      Out: Gortat

Min:
      In: Lee
      Out: Steimsma, Hayward

Phx get our 2013 1st and one of our 2nd round picks.  Min gets a pair of 2nd rounders.

My initial reaction to this was wow, good idea but the more I have thought about it, I have managed to talk myself out of it.

First, I think Minni is relying on Ridnour pretty heavily with Rubio in and out of the line up with injuries (Ridnour has been starting and playing 30+ min quite a bit).  They probably can't afford to trade him without getting a comparable PG back.

Also, when we get Bradley back, I think he is going to see a lot of time at back up PG in addition to time at SG so with Bradley and Terry, back up PG doesn't seem like such a need.  Even if we get Steisma, this just doesn't seem worth it.
