Quote
“I was in a good situation in Memphis at the time,” said Mayo. “Obviously, Boston is a big-time organization as well. Great players. It would’ve been an honor to play with KG [Kevin Garnett], [Paul] Pierce and [Rajon] Rondo. It would’ve been great to play with those guys and with [Celtics coach] Doc [Rivers].”

Would have been nice to get him.

Much different story than is often told about this deal and why it didn't happen.

Interesting.

This is a boilerplate answer to a loaded question from a reporter.  There is no way to know whether he was being honest, or diplomatic.  Nothing to see here.

Big miss for the Celts. This would have been a home run move in exchange for Ray. Oh well. .. .the eggs are in the Courtney Lee basket and he's gotta show us that 3 pt range and stingy defense.

Mayo's ball handling and drive to the bucket capabilities seem to be solid.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I've wanted him on the C's for years, all until he said he had no interest in being a Celtic last season. I guess he was saying it out of respect for Memphis. Either way going to Dallas was probably best for him. I doubt he would have the same offensive freedom under Doc.

Not buying it. Why would he not want to go to Boston.?

apparently he never said that. He was happy to come to boston but according to him, the trade for Ray got nixed because a few celtics players voiced their opinion that they didn't want to trade Ray for Mayo.

So, a few of our guys, likely KG and Paul, stood up for Ray and nixed a good deal just to have Ray give all of us the finger on the way to the heat.
