Varejao because he is a two position player (PF/C).

As a center, Varejao and Gortat are fairly even. Not much in it.

I love Varejao's aggression.  I would prefer him if healthy.  But he isn't always healthy.  I'd be happy with either one.  Pretty equal in my opinion.

I agree as centers they are pretty much even but I think in "pesky-ness" and "get under your skin guy", AV is that. He is KG without the talk, AV does it with his hustle! I feel AV can take other players off their game mentally.

So to me, AV is better.

With that said, we already have an "AV" in KG and Gortat probably comes cheaper... so for our team, Gortat would be a better choice!
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Marcin Gortat or Andersen Varejao ?

I'd say they're roughly on the same tier. Neither one should be your best or second best player. Maybe third, hopefully 4th or 5th.

Which one I'd prefer would strongly depend on who else was on the team.

Example: The Heat, I'd rather have Varejao. They need his toughness and defense and scrappiness, and they don't have a scoring need.

The Celtics: We've got a scoring problem and a defense problem. Either guy would work, so its a 'whoever's cheaper' situation.

I think that Gortat, Verajao and Josh Smith all have a very good chance to be moved by the deadline.

I'll take any of the 3 in this order: Smith, Verajao, Gortat.

I agree with your order. What would you give up for them tho?

Green/Bass or Green/Lee with Melo and picks for Smith for salaries to match.

Green plus Melo or Sully plus a 1st or  Lee plus Melo and Sully plus a 1st for the other two.

I think SideShow would be better for this team.

Sideshow doesn't need the ball to score, he boards.   I too, think he is the best option for us.  He is pesky too and the best defender of the three.  Defense and rebounds is what we need.

This is very unlikely and maybe stupid but i'm just throwing this out there:

Celtics:
Josh Smith
Andersen Varejao

Hawks:
Avery Bradley
Jared Sullinger
Fab Melo
Brandon Bass
2013 Celtics 1st round pick

Cavaliers:
Jeff Green
John Jenkins
2015 Celtics 1st round pick
2013 Celtics 2nd round pick
2013 Hawks 2nd round pick

Celtics get Josh Smith who is another star and could put them in the elite category as a team.  They also get Andersen Varejao to help on the boards.

The Hawks may do this if Josh Smith insists on a trade to Boston.  They get some young talent for the future and they can help now too.

The Cavaliers want to trade Varejao.  They want young talent and picks.  Jeff Green would be a perfect fit there and can become a 17 and 7 guy as a starter.  Irving, Waiters, Green, Thompson, Zeller looks like it can be a great line-up in a year or two.

It does seem unrealistic though.

Varejao is one of those players you hate on the other side, we tend to think we'd love him in green, but I'm not sure.

I think Gortat will bring more offense and athleticism on the boards, something we miss. Sully could do pretty well almost all the things Varejao can.

But right now I'd rather keep this team together and try to win with them. At the deadline there'll be chances to get a good trade, and even better on draft night. There's no hurry for the Cs, our assets stock is low right now. Wait till their value is high and then MAYBE we'll see a trade.

What's our starting lineup after that trade?
