At one point in his career, Dampier was a very useful player.  That time has passed, though.

The best option available at center (other than Chris Andersen, at least) was Darko.  For whatever reason, the Celts decided not to play him.

D. West / R. Anderson / C. Copeland
L. Deng / K. Singler / D. Rudez
A. Iguodala / V. Carter / B. Gordon / C.J. Wilcox

May as well give Artis Gilmore a call.

I heard Dino Radja was smoking a cigarette outside the Garden, he's probably looking for a gig.

I still don't understand why people were so high on Darko. Yeah, he looked not terrible during pre-season, but we are talking about a player who was literally never worth his contract/minutes at any point in his career. His absolute best season he was mediocre.

Dampier has historically been a pretty good player. He didn't get many minutes last season, but was serviceable during that time. He was also pretty good the season before, in Miami (better, in fact, than Darko was at any point during his career). I think Dampier is worth a try-out, at least.

Kenyon Martin is a better choice than Darko, but not as good (at this point) as Dampier. It has been several years since K-Mart has produced meaningful minutes, while Dampier has only had one off season.

i really don't understand how Darko got no minutes on this team. Dampier ? REALLY !  ? we had darko who is better. dampier is slow and old. we need production not more washed up big men like collins

Darko has never played as well in his career as Dampier did during his worst season. Not sure where this Darko love and Dampier hate is coming from. It really sounds like people just looking for excuses.

Darko has never panned out.   I don't get it either.

Dampier has historically been a pretty good player. He didn't get many minutes last season, but was serviceable during that time.

He had a couple of okay playoff games.  In the regular season, he scored a grand total of 2 points over 15 games.  0.1 points on 12.5% shooting.

He was also pretty good the season before, in Miami (better, in fact, than Darko was at any point during his career).

2.5 points and 3.5 rebounds in the regular season, and zero minutes in the playoffs, is better than anything Darko has done?

Darko has never played as well in his career as Dampier did during his worst season.

There's no factual basis for this statement, but I guess you're entitled to keep repeating it.

I would rather have K-mart...I guess i'm of the opinion that  we dont really need a true "center" to backup KG...heck Wilcox is doing a good job in that role

just someone who can play solid defense and protect the rim when KG is out...I think Kmart would be able to do that.

there are no "true" centers in the nba anymore...the only true one is d.howard and if you hack/man him up he seems to crumble

yikes. if they're serious about winning they need someone who's actually halfway decent - not just a dredged up carcass.

so obvious they need a trade - lots of guards, "smalls" no bigs - none of the scrap heap guys is gonna make much of a difference overall i think.

Honesty I think a dredged up carcass is better than Collins

No point in Dampier. Already have Jason Collins. Too similar.

Need a different type of big man (like C.Andersen or Kenyon Martin).

I so hope we don't sign Erica!  >:(

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
If this is true, it's probably a smoke screen.
Dampier could replace Darko as the last big on the bench but he's just minimum salary security in case Collins goes down.

I'm surprised more rumors aren't swirling and Ainge is keeping all his calls under wraps very well.

Danny Ainge tried to get CP3 & David West to add to KG, Pierce and Ray Allen. Just Imagine if the stars had aligned...
