So for the team logo, do they change the beak in a basket?

Don't know, but it sounds like a ready-made promotional opportunity for Popeye's as the corporate sponsor.

I was walking along the road with two friends the sun was setting suddenly the sky turned blood red I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence there was blood and tongues of fire above the blue-black fjord and the city my friends walked on and I stood there trembling with anxiety and I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature.

Nice. Plays up the Voodoo connection (name already taken by the AFL franchise there). Having read up a bit more on the cultural significance of the term "Krewe," I've moved that to the top of my list. http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/52175/can-you-handle-the-pelicans

The logo has to be a pelican with a basketball in his huge beak like a big 'ol fish. I really don't have an issue with any NBA team name but I think this is bad. As I said logos and colors are another story. The New Orleans Hex.

It had a ring to it anyways but with that history, yes that's a great choice. I hope they at least use the old Jazz purple/yellow scheme here.

A couple different reports coming off Yahoo. One saying N.O. was changing there name to the Pelicans?!
The New Orleans Hornets are expected to change their nickname to the Pelicans as early as the 2013-14 season, numerous sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Hornets planned to change their nickname since Tom Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints, purchased the team on April 14. Benson also owns the rights to the nickname Pelicans. Yahoo! Sports One saying not so much.
New Orleans Hornets spokesman Greg Bensel denied a Yahoo! Sports report that owner Tom Benson has finalized plans to change the nickname of his NBA franchise from the Hornets to Pelicans. "We’re not confirming that is the name,’’ Bensel said. "This is a process that’s ongoing and still in discussions. And it will be eventually decided by the NBA.’’ New Orleans Times-Picayune
So what do you think? Are you yay on Pelicans? If not whats the best name change for New Orleans... To me it really should be the New Orleans Jazz and make Utah change their name
Yeah, I would think Utah would feel awkward or embarrassed about that. Armstrong, Davis, Coltrane, Gilespie, Ellington Holiday -- they all make you think Utah. While we're on the subject, the LA Lakers is just as absurd as the Utah Jazz.

Hate the name but doubt if they be there for long anyways
I think the name's fine. That team has a chance to be pretty good. Anthony Davis is the real deal... he could have a Duncan-like career. I even think if he and Gordon get back soon enough from their injuries, it's not unthinkable that they could inch towards the playoff race.

But both the Utah Jazz and the LA Lakers have become big enough to transcend the words. When I think of the phrase "Utah Jazz" I don't think of Mormons or Music, I think of Stockton and Malone. Likewise with the Lakers--I don't think lakes, I see Shaq, Kobe, Magic, Worthy, Kareem, etc.
Also I'm pretty sure the Hornets are staying in that arena for another decade, on paper at least.

Should have called them the New Orleans Jambalaya, so that they could be referred to as the Jam or the Jammies, for short.

Pelicans is a great name, I really like it! Voodoo would have been a good name as well.
