Reports are just coming in regarding a tragedy involving the Kansas City Chiefs, but here's what we know at this time. According to KCTV-5 News in Kansas City, an Chiefs player shot and killed his girlfriend at a house near 54th street and Chrysler Avenue on Saturday morning.

The player then drove to a practice facility near the team's main campus and took his own life. The team's Arrowhead practice facility was evacuated and is currently on police lockdown.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the team said in a statement this morning. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, the name of the player will not be revealed until his family is informed. The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead at 1:00 PM ET Sunday.

Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

This is very sad. Thoughts go out to all families involved -- Belcher's and his girlfriend's.

Holy Cow, He kills his girl then drives to the stadium and kills himself in front of Scott Pioli And Romeo Crennel. Unreal.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend Saturday, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.

Authorities did not release a possible motive for the murder-suicide, though police said that Belcher and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Kasandra M. Perkins, had been arguing recently. The two of them have a 3-month-old girl who was being cared for by family.

Belcher thanked general manager Scott Pioli and coach Romeo Crennel before shooting himself in the parking lot of the team’s practice facility, police spokesman Darin Snapp said. Police had locked it down by mid-morning and reporters were confined to the street just outside the gates.

The team said it would play its home game against the Carolina Panthers as scheduled on Sunday at noon local time "after discussions between the league office, Head Coach Romeo Crennel and Chiefs team captains."

A spokesman for Kansas City told The Associated Press that Crennel plans to coach the team.

Reminds me of the senseless Benoit tragedy.. More studies need to be done on the effects of traumatic brain injuries. Add drugs to the mix and it's a disaster doomed to repeat itself.

This hits home a bit, as Belcher was a local product (University of Maine).  As far as I know, he was always a good student and a hard working player.  He was recognized locally for being involved in "Male Athletes Against Violence", an anti-domestic violence group, and mentored as a Big Brother.

I feel for his and the victim's family, and especially for the little girl who has been left behind.

I have been an avid Chiefs fan my whole life, and this was a horrible incident. I don't even care anymore how awful Kansas City is, I just feel terrible for the baby. It is also horrifying to imagine being one of the people called out to talk to him, then watch him blow his head off.

I cannot imagine how the Chiefs will have their heads in the game tomorrow. I mean really, how is Crennel going to manage things with that image in his head.
