I think he'll flourish more with the second unit because of his current confidence level. It's still rather low at the moment that he seems to pass off to the starters when they're on the court with him. He seems more aggressive when playing off the bench.
I moved the cheese.

I've been saying since before the season... I think starting Jeff Green at his natural Sf and Pierce at SG makes sense.  Let's trade a few of our shooting guards for a legit big (Gortat, Smith, Big Al, Varejao... whatever) and let's trot out PG - Rondo, SG - Pierce, SF - Green, Big 1 - KG, Big 2 - TBD...

Green is our 4th best player right now.  He needs a bigger role.

Rondo pierce KG and terry are all playing better than Green. At best green is the 5th best.
Terry's a good shooter off the bench, but Jeff Green is a better player.  Green is the 4th best player on this team... he needs a bigger role to show it.

Terry's been better for his career and is still better.  They're both mainly scorers (although Terry is a very good passer as well but that part of his game has been underused thus far) and since Terry is superior in that area, I think Terry tops him.  I could see giving Green the advantage if he was good in another area like passing, rebounding and defending but he's not.

While I hope Green can begin to play better, or rather, more consistently, his per minute numbers this season are in line with his career numbers  This is basically the player he was at OKC, except he got enough shots there to make his raw scoring average decent enough so people didn't jump on his case as much.  Otherwise, he was still the poor rebounder, defender, passer and volume scorer he's been this season.

I really don't get the jack of all trades, master of none line with him.  I wish.  If he was average in a variety of categories, he'd be very valuable but unfortunately he hasn't demonstrated the versatility he showed coming out of Georgetown.

I have to admit though, when he has a game like he did against OKC or Milwaukee, I push away doubts that he can still take that next step five years into his career.  I wouldn't bet on it because I don't think he has the skill level for it.  He lacks the ability to initiate a pick and roll and isn't a knockdown shooter.

I disagree about Jeff Green being versatile.   I think that is his problem.   He is a jack of all trades and master of none.   The NBA is a game of specialists; you have scorers, rebounders, shooters, defenders and passers etc.  Green is decent in all of these areas but has mastered none.   We need him to pick one or two of these and excel at them.  There are always exceptions to this like Larry, Magic and LeBron but he doesn't have that talent level so he needs to specialize in some areas.
