http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/224541/Sources_Lakers_Have_Had_Internal_Discussions_On_Pursuing_Josh_SmithMakes a tonne of sense. Although the Atlanta has apparently said they have 'zero interest' in a package around Gasol. No chance of that happening, so I wonder what it would take to get Smith if we wanted him? We may have to give up more than we bargained for....

If they have no interest in Pau Gasol, they must be looking for a rebuilding type trade.
(1) A long term (young) building block to replace Josh Smith. (2) Maintain or improve cap flexibility + add draft picks
It doesn't look like Ainge can offer either. Need to be a three team deal.

Maybe, we could get away with Avery+Sully+Bass+picks or Green thrown in there instead of Avery. We are going to have to roll the dice at some point.

Sources also say that if you're the Hawks, you look at that offer, laugh, and hang up, right?

Jeff should just create another forum link for Josh Smith trade rumors and proposals.

Yeah we'd need to get someone to offer up picks/prospects for Jeff Green.

Then we'd end up with a different sub-forum every year as the guys on the block changes every year. If you're sick of seeing such topics, don't click on them and post derisively. I for one was interested to see reports Atlanta doesn't want Gasol, I hadn't any reports on that aspect before.

i dont think it makes sense for the hawks to get gasol when they have horford. next to horford, they need a fast athletic 4, like josh smith.

Horford isn't a slow PF, he's pretty darn good at keeping up with stretch big men when switched onto them. Maybe down the road that might be an issue, but by then Gasol would be done.

I think Hortford at 4, Gasol at 5 would work well. Or vice versa. They would just defend the other bigs to their best advantage, but their high/low post games should mesh well. Howard and Smith together would be.... formidable.

Korver + Smith for Gasol?

I'd do that in a heartbeat if i'm Atlanta. Gasol is only under contract for two more years, and he can still give you 20/10, plus with him and Horford, that's a very good big man combo.

I'm done doubting the lakers. If they want him I'm sure they'll get him whether Gasol ends up in Atlanta or not.

Glancing at Lakers blogs ...LA fans treat Gasol like dirt. You'd think he can't play , if ANYBODY out there remotely has an once more ounce of quality than a player they have , they begin the chant to trade that person. Smith is an upgrade ,but NOT HUGE IMO for the Lakers. They are just grasping at straws, change coach /players anything they need to win while KObe is still "KOBE" . Lakers fans have lost it / they aren't even rational ...includes Magic IRVING Johnson...he is so wrapped up in thei s KOBE , must win thing ..the whole crowd is off their rockers.
Gasol is a wonderful player, he would be a nice additon to the Celtics IMO. I'd trade abunch of Celtics for Gasol.
Josh Smith is a great fit for the Celtics. But the Lakers continue to FORCE their will on aquirring any and all the players they desire.
I'm learning to hate on Magic Johnson easier every year. He wants Smith on the Lakers , so the Celtics won't have a chance.
Frankly , the lakers have the best players NOW , so what is their crying about , it never ends with them, they have all the alstars and its never enough.

No chance of that happening, so I wonder what it would take to get Smith if we wanted him?
A large expiring contract, a young player on a rookie scale contract who looks like a starter, a lottery pick, plus some other stuff.

This will somehow happen, and then the Lakers will still lose.
