If we went out and got all these new younger and faster players, why is Rondo walking the ball up 9 of 10 times?

If we're getting crushed on the boards, why do we have 3 7 footers sitting on the bench?

Is it true what Red used to say, you can't run without the ball?

Is KG still an elite defender? Future all of famer Kevin Serephin doesn't think so!

Do we get xtra points for having no one over 6'9" on the court at the same time?

Should we waive Collins, Darko, Melo, Joseph and PP, and sign more shooting guards and undersize power forwards to make Docs rotation decisions easier?

Anyone else with some ?'s for Doc? We could make this a regular feature in the forums!

I'll agree here, this team needs to run more. In order to do so i would like to see them force the tempo more on D, create turnovers, and get out in transition. Force the pace.

Avery Bradley, anyone?

IMO, the only thing that should be on the Celtics collective mind is DEFENSE.  Without our elite D, we are nothing.  Since we are a mediocre (or terrible, depending on who you ask) rebounding team, our D needs to be phenomenal if we are to get fast break opportunities.

With regards to the excessive small-ball -ification of the Celtics...
Give it some time.  I know it looks ugly, and it's frustrating to have unused bigs on the bench, but give Doc some time.  He's got 82 games to figure out which lineups work and which don't- this means giving under-performing units time to develop.  So I guess all there is to do for now is clench your teeth and bear it. Doc reallllly wants small ball to work, and he's going to keep forcing the issue until players start executing.

Coaches have Histories. Doc is a 500 Coach most of his career till the Big 3 evolved. As the Big 3 evaporates, does Doc? Doc should have gone out big when he had the chance, but no he stayed with a Team with bad odds.

Defense leads to running and easy buckets in transition... defense has been the problem the past 3 games.

Doc going small with bass and sully does confuse me a bit as both are a bit undersized but doc only uses that lineup against other small lineups. The defensive failures go beyond that. The guards aren't defending... even lineups with kg have been having issues defending because of this.

Terry has been terrible on the defensive end, rondo in the bucks game was atrocious. you cant expect the bigs to guard everything. I'd worry less about the lineups atm and more about our backcourt's defense. I think it will come in time... when it does, you'll see this team run.

Finally, its very hard for a new coach to create perfect lineups with so many new players. Like it or not, doc is experimenting, and its gonna take time. Thats why some of his lineups are failures... hes trying to figure out what works against different teams. Its hard when you literally have 12-13 guys who offer something new to the table. Most teams only have around 8. When doc and the team gets a better feel for each other and a formula down pat, this team will rarely lose.

we're 3 games in... it only goes up from here

Doc, do you hate being asked ridiculous questions from neophytes on a basketball blog especially when they don't have a clue who is healthy, who isn't healthy, who is "getting" the offensive and defensive sets and who isn't, who has shown they have earned the right to play and who hasn't, and a whole other host of things that you as coach of the Celtics are privy too that they are not?

Well, if Doc is only using the players who are "getting it", we are in some serious, serious trouble!!!!!!!!!!

Wilcox's conditioning is not game time.

Darko has a wrist injury.

Collins probably isn't part of the regular rotation.

So we're playing full time small ball because of injuries.

Small ball without Garnett or even Wilcox probably takes time to adjust to. Maybe.

These questions all come down to one fact. This team needs time to come together as a defensive unit. For NBA teams offense come relatively easy. Run a pick and role, get guys open, and hit your open shots. Defense is more complex and you need to work as a cohesive unit. With time the D will tighten up, the Cs will get stops and cause turnovers that will lead to pushing the pace.

This is a decent question.  Although I think what it comes down to is getting stops.  It is really hard to run off made baskets in todays NBA, despite what Tommy might tell you.  Between the refs always allowing guys to delay the game on made baskets without calling it, and the overall athleticism, defenses usually get back after a made basket.  Not to mention, with their lack of rebounders, they can't really leak guys out.  I do think they need to make a more concerted effort to run a bit more, but I think it won't truly make a difference until they start getting stops and defensive rebounds.

7 footer does not equal a good rebounder.  Rebounding is about positioning and in the C's system, it is about rotations.  Right now, they are to slow in the rotations in the first place to even get stops, which puts them even more behind to getting the rebounds.

While it wouldn't hurt to have a bigger guy in there to grab the rebounds, if they are not making the rotations, there won't be rebounds to grab, and they will be even further out of position than the guys who are in there anyways, if the guys do miss the open shots.

Yes.  And you get the ball by getting stops.

Is KG still an elite defender? Future all of famer Kevin Serephin doesn't think so!

No, he is still a very good defender, but not elite.  Although he was never a great defender against big bangers, who can also hit 10 footers over the top of him.  Although to be fair, not many people knew Seraphin was in that category.

KG is an elite team defender, who has regressed to being maybe a slightly above average individual defender, who needs certain matchups to shine.  He used to be a guy who could make up for the deficiencies of the rest of the team, now he is a guy who needs the rest of the team clicking on all cylinders to be at his best.

No, but we get negative points for getting bad NBA players on the floor.
