I've just finished the first episode, and it is oh so good.

I suggest you give it a try.

I thought it was pretty disappointing. Still watching it but it didn't meet expectations.

Too many unlikeable characters. Some really bad scenes / dialogue.

I haven't seen the show, but I listened to a podcast episode of Grantland's Hollywood Prospectus and they were absolutely ripping it to shreds.  They said it just got worse and worse and worse.

But that's just one opinion, I guess.

I've heard that the drama is good, but the realism is problematic.

After seeing the second episode, I can tell that it's a slippery slope to being corny. After all, it's about a news show doing real news, so it'll be really hard not to become just another feel good romance comedy with a news theme. Alison Pill makes it a bit too much "bubble gum"ish, if that makes any sense.

All in all, it's still not bad at all, and I like the Jeff Daniel's acting enough to give it some more time to see where they take this.

My wife and I are both big fans.  Jeff Daniels is absolutely awesome and his character is incredibly likeable overall.  I have no idea how realistic the show is, but I like it.  Regular Sunday viewing after True Blood for the wife and I.

That said I think Episodes on Showtime is the best show on Sunday night.  That show is magnificent.

I've been watching it and I like it. There are points that do get draggy and the undertone does get preachy at times. They do have the benefit of hindsight on the newstopic but they do make some good points on the influence of media in our world today.

The characters dialogue are not realistic but they are entertaining. I would say it's more of a drama with some comedy. Overall, 7/10 with potential.

I haven't watched it yet, but I just finished listening to a nice interview with Sorkin (here: http://www.npr.org/2012/07/16/156841165/aaron-sorkin-the-writer-behind-the-newsroom), and am pretty interested now. Good thing I already have the channel.

I saw the first couple of episodes and came away knowing it was another Aaron Sorkin show without having to look at the credits.  Same old MO for Sorkin -- rapid-fire, educated-commentary banter back and forth between characters that's far from what actual dialogue is between most people.  Most people just cannot come back with the the perfect quip immediately after everything someone else says.  After awhile, it gets stale.

The other thing that bothered me a bit was the holier-than-thou, we're-on-top-of-this-crisis-we-saw-brewing-while-everyone-else-missed-it storylines.

this may have improved after the second show but TBH, I'm in no rush to play catch up on the other episodes on my DVR.
