And Orlando doesn't even get out of Turkoglu's contract with this trade?!  Man, that is ugly.  I guess all the crazy trade proposals we saw this past year from Celticsbloggers that shortchanged the Magic into trading us Dwight would have been sufficient after all.  ;)

Well Orlando will have plenty of cap space during the 2013 free agency period. Alot of great players will be available
Orlando do seem to be able to attract players there.

Signed Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill. Almost stole Duncan from San Antonio. Got Rashard Lewis too (who had other max contract offers on the table). Signed a couple of well-regarded role players too with Bass and Pietrus who had multiple teams interested in them.

So at least there's that. Cap flexibility does seem to have a lot of value there.

Also if they'd taken Houston's offer Magic could've let Jameer Nelson walk and taken the younger, more productive Kyle Lowry on a cheaper contract.

Would Morey still offer Kevin Martin's expiring deal, the three unsigned rookies (Lamb, White, Jones), and the future 1st from Toronto for a rental of Dwight?

I think it looks terrible for Orlando because it's a rumour.

Watch this not happen as described by the OP. Orlando aren't keen to be shafted, surely.

This is getting ugly for the Magic. They have the power chip. Dwight can't go to the Nets in the offseason so it will have to be by Orlando.

A.Bynum and no picks is a better offer.
Not only does Dwight have no interest in signing an extension with LA, but Bynum has no interest in signing an extension with Orlando.  The Magic would be in the same darn position.

I've been sayin this for months... leverage, folks.  Leverage.  Brooklyn is where Dwight will more than likely end up unless some crazy GM is willing to give up assets for a possible 1 year rental.

So what's Howard going to do after a year in LA, retire or sign a mle contract in NJ? Go back to Orlando maybe?

Unless you are really high on Lopez, that is an unconscionably bad return for a top 5 player in his mid-twenties.

Amazing that that is the best offer for Howard.

Its not.  He is pulling a Melo and forcing it to be.

If Bynum won't sign a extension and stay and play for the Magic....thats no good , they are back in the same crummie situation as with Dwight.  ???   Yup ..if thats the case , getting Bynum for ONE YEAR is not much compensation . ::)

Not sure what you do if you are Orlando.  How do you get a FA to sign and stay a few years so you can build a team.

Don't like it for Cleveland either.

Orlando dug their own grave on this one. If they flipped him to the next before last season's trade deadline, the package would have been far better.

Better picks & more cap relief.

Who knows.  It's a risk.  From what I understand, Orlando is the team hesitating more than the Lakers.  Dwight re-signing with the Lakers long-term might be a safer bet than Bynum re-signing with the Magic long term.  They'd be basically swapping out one bad situation for another.  It's not a stretch to think that a team like Dallas could put themselves in position to make a major run at Dwight if he reached free agency.  The Lakers would still be taking a considerable risk by giving up Bynum.

Leverage, baby.  Leverage.  Dwight demands Brooklyn... Brooklyn doesn't have to come up with the "best offer for Dwight"... they just have to come up with a better offer than the rest of the league.  And since Dwight is adamant that he will not sign an extension with any team other than Brooklyn... the rest of the league isn't going to give up equal value for a rental.

DH would be more likey to remain with LA , than Bynum with Orlando..

On the other hand ...somehow I feel signing Bynum to max long term contract might backfire , as easily hurt as Bynum gets.

Plus Bynum is a bit of a head case himself.   No telling what he might do ..he is confusing as DH.

LA and Orlando ...just trading problems / headaches
