Well, for what it's worth I'd LOVE DIRK in BOS....I know it's highly unlikely, but a man can dream, right?
It would be awesome, but unless Rondo is involved I don't see how Boston would have the pieces to make it work, and I'm not sure Boston would move on from Rondo for Dirk (given his age - I mean Pau is a few years younger than Dirk and that rumored deal was last off season).
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

stupid thread....dirk is one of 2 players in the NBA with a no-trade clause in his contract. the other is kobe.

A no-trade clause only means the team must receive consent from the player.

If Dirk wants to leave, he can be traded.

I think this is tough.  I think they should try to trade him similar to how Minnesota did with KG in '07.  It's the best move for the player and the franchise.

Ideally, they'd send him East.  But what about San Antonio?

Stephen Jackson, Splitter, Kawhi Leonard, Bonner + future first for Dirk?  It checks out in trade machine, but I think SA is giving up too much depth.

But, wow...

Parker
Green
Manu
Dirk
Duncan

If they could fill that roster out with exceptions and vet mins to give their veterans enough rest, that is a scary starting lineup.
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

The Nets should try for Dirk if Howard goes to LA or someplace.

Minnesota - Pekovic, Williams, Webster, Miller, 2013 1st (top 3 protected)

Chicago - Noah, Deng, 2013 1st

Philadelphia - Turner, Harkless, Brand, 2013 1st (top ten protected)

Indiana - Granger, West, Hansborough (Dallas also trades Marion)

There are a few other trade packages that might be worth exploring involving Atlanta (josh smith), Denver (gallinari among others), Golden State (curry and lee), etc.

Chicago is an interesting option for him - but I'm not sure the trade makes much sense for Dallas. Talents comparable, but if I'm rebuilding w/o a prospect I'm not sure I want Noah and Deng eating up 20 million dollars of my salary cap up even if they're nice players on reasonable contracts.

Dirk to the Bulls would be a good match.  Even giving up Noah and say GIbson or Deng.

Rose + Dirk + Deng and few more players could make a decent team for a couple years.

I actually think the best fit would be Minnesota.  Given the trade above that means Minnesota still has Love and Rubio in addition to solid role players like Barea, Budinger, Johnson, Ridnour, Ellington, and Milicic.  They would clearly need to add another big man, but that Minnesota team would be a force in the west

PG - Rubio, Ridnour, Barea
SG - Johnson, Barea, Ellington, Ridnour
SF - Budinger, Johnson
PF - Love, Nowitzki
C - Nowitzki, Milicic

I don't think Dirk would go to Minnesota. I don't think he'd view them as a title contender.

He'll want to go somewhere with a strong interior defense that allows him to play PF. After winning a title with Tyson Chandler alongside + spending all those years under Nellie as a faux-contender with defensively deficient squads ... I don't think he'll view Minnesota as a serious contender. I think he'll veto any trade to them.

I'm thinking hard on who the 'legit' title contenders are. But, how many teams get a push over the edge with Dirk?

Washington:

Wall
Beal
Ariza
Dirk
Nene

Could that team win a title? It could certainly make some noise.

Golden State?

Steph Curry
Klay Thompson
Harrison Barnes
Dirk
Bogut

Meh.

Los Angeles:
Nash
Kobe
?
Dirk
Bynum

That one is scary.

Atlanta?
Harris
?
J Smoove
Dirk
Horford

Could you imagine if LA was able to trade Gasol for Dirk? Then they'd be able to trade Bynum for Howard and then I would hate everything.

At this point I think it would be a wise decision for Dallas but I would like to see dirk finish his career there. It would be a good move for Dallas to start a sort of rebuilding process and getting younger.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

Thank God Los Angeles doesn't have any first round picks or young assets anyone gives a crap about.

A 3-way deal maybe?

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7shyb2s

LA trades: Gasol, Artest
Gets: Dirk, Brendan Haywood

Dallas Trades: Dirk, Haywood (4 years, 8.2 mil per)
Gets: R Jefferson (2yrs, 10 mil), Dorel Wright (1 yr, 4 million), Harrison Barnes

Golden State trades: Harrison Barnes (2.8 mil per 4 yrs), Richard Jefferson, Dorel Wright
Gets: Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace

LAL Looks Like:
Nash
Kobe
?
Dirk/?
Bynum/Haywood

GSW looks like:
Curry
Thompson
?
Gasol
Bogut

Dallas Looks Like:
Crap. But they save a ton of money and pick up lottery talent in Barnes.

It doesn't (in the short term). It just allows them to begin rebuilding earlier and (hopefully) as a result get back to title-contention quicker in the distant future.

I wouldn't trade Dirk Nowitzki.

I don't think his situation is like Garnett's or some other stars. In Minnesota, they were bogged down with a load of bad contracts that it made it incredibly difficult to change their roster. They were locked in with a lousy team for the foreseeable future.

That's not the situation in Dallas. They have lots of cap flexibility. Even if they can't find a good use for it this season, they could further down the road. For that reason, I think it's in their best interests to keep Dirk.
