A couple of rules regarding posting about the Olympics.

1) Let's try to keep any thoughts about the Olympics about to this one thread.

2) Since the games are being shown on tape delay to the vast majority of our membership, lets refrain from posting about events until after they have aired (or at least provide a very conspicuous spoiler alert)

I figured I might as well do the thread. There you go. Should be good entertainment.

is it just me, or has there been no publicity at all about the London Olympics? No hype, no rivalry, nada. this has got to be the  most under-publicized Olympics in recent history

The olympics are broadcasted by NBC which is ESPNs competitors. I'm assuming by hype you refer to coverage on sportscenter and on ESPN in general. It would be in ESPN's best interests to tone down the coverage of the olympics.

lol, funny thing is i don't have cable, so all I watch is public TV, and I haven't seen any mention of the Olympics

by hype and rivalry, i meant the bravado of Michael Johnson in 400 meter dash, Popov the Russian Rocket vs Gary Hall Jr in swimming, stuff like that, not stupid ESPN artificial hype.

I don't even know who's competing this year for Team USA. I assume the usual crew of Michael Phelps, Amanda Beard, Aaron Piersol will be back in swimming.......

The thing's still a month away.  We'll get the prerequisite hype when it's time.  ACF is already trying to get us started.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

If I remember correctly Aaron Piersol retired. I was watching the trials for swimming and I think they said he retired.
The only competition I'm hearing about is the Lotche vs. Phelps in swimming.

Any Celtics fans coming over to London, or knows anyone coming over to London?

I live in Watford, 17 miles NW of London so would be happy to meet anyone for
a beer if you are visiting.

Signed to a 6 year $0 contract with the Celtics Blog forum!

Well, look at it this way: you only have this 'problem' for two weeks, while many Celtics fans outside the USA - myself included - have it the whole NBA season. A 7.30 pm game for example means tip off at 1.30 am for me. So when I go to bed afterwards, the birds are already singing... So count your blessings my friend!

But man, I'm really excited about the Olympics! Basketball, football (European style ;D), tennis, athletics, swimming and the sports with Dutch medal candidates - I'm going to watch it all. All day, every day. Let's go!

One of the greatest sports related moments I ever had was during the Olympics 4 years ago.  Some buddies and I went to a Cubs game at Wrigley and afterwards hit up a local bar.  All the tvs were set to the Olypmics and the swim relay race where the U.S. came back to win in the last moments was on.  This bar was packed and everyone stopped to watch the last leg of the race.  The place absolutely ERUPTED when they announced that the U.S. had won.  A bar full of strangers exchanged high-fives and hugs and the U.S.A. chants went on for what seemed like forever. All this for a sport that most of us only paid attention to once every 4 years.  As cheesy as it sounds it was an electric feeling and a moment I will never forget.

Regardless of what country you are from nothing brings out your national pride and patriotism like the Olympics and I think that that makes it a very special event!

Yikes!

Paul McCartney sure sounds terrible these days.

Should have featured Roger Waters more, at least he still has the chops.
