what is your ideal (REASONABLE) 2012 celtics team? no superteams here!

i'm thinking...

PG: Rajon Rondo ... Avery Bradley
SG: Jamal Crawford ... Avery Bradley ... E'Twaun Moore
SF: Paul Pierce ... Jeff Green
PF: Kevin Garnett ... Royce White ... JaJaun Johnson
C: JaVale McGee ... Fab Melo ... Greg Stiemsma

Sign KG for 2 yrs, 20 million
Use remaining cap space on Crawford and McGee
Give Green a 1yr deal for 3-5mil to re-prove himself
21st pick: White
22nd pick: Melo

Have a 3-guard rotation of Crawford, Bradley, and Rondo
Not much depth at the 1, I know, but maybe E'Twaun can learn a little from Rondooooo

Bonuses:
1. KG back at the 4, which he prefers, and he has a legitimate big to lighten the defensive and rebounding load
2. Jeff Green will get enough playing time to determine if he can still make it in the league, and he can learn from Pierce and hopefully someday become the C's starting 3
3. Young, promising team with two smart veterans in Pierce and KG to teach them all

Ideal?  OK:

I am putting the cap at $60 million for ease.

Sign KG to 1 year, $12 million (which is below market, but if he wants to stay that badly, its more than reasonable).

Sign and trade Ray and Bass (perhaps in a 3 or 4 team trade) along with next years first, JJJ, and cash to Atlanta for Josh Smith.

Resign Jeff Green to 1 year $6 million deal.

Use half of the MLE to resign Stiemsma to a 2 year/$5 million deal.

Use the part of the MLE to sign CJ Miles to a 1 year/$2.5 million deal.

Use #22 and a second rounder to trade up to ~16 to draft Ross.  Use #21 and cash to trade up to draft Sullinger.

Resign Dooling for the minimum.

Fill out the roster with some vet minimum Players

PG: Rondo, Dooling, Bradley
SG: Bradley, Ross, Miles
SF: Pierce, Green, Miles
PF: Smith, Sullinger, JJJ
C: KG, Stiemsma, Williams

- Re-sign Stiemsma for 5 mil/2 yrs
- Re-sign Pietrus for 2.5 mil/1 yr
- Sign Erden and Dooling on vet. min contracts

Roster:
Rondo - Moore - Dooling
Bradley - Pietrus - Barton

Rajon Rondo
Avery Bradley
Paul Pierce
Bass + 3 picks/Josh Smith/Joakim Noah
Kevin Garnett
Ray Allen
Jeff Green
Mikael Pietrus
E'Twaun Moore
JaJuan Johnson
Chris Wilcox
Sean Williams
Greg Stiemsma
Ryan Hollins
Keyon Dooling
Marquis Daniels

Basically I am hoping a package of Bass, our 3 picks, Greg Stiemsma and/or Kristic will get us Josh Smith or Joakim Noah.  Chicago wants to shed some salary and sign Gibson and Asik.  Atlanta wants to take the bird in hand instead of risking losing Smith for nothing in free-agency.  There are probably other teams that can offer better packages, but you did say ideal.

Absolutely everything in this post is my ideal (but within reason) 12-13 Boston Celtics.

This is nice but highly unlikely..Houston will not just sell their pick and take our pick in exchange and neither will the other team.

Plus Atlanta has no use with that package, they can get much better deals.

But I do like where your heads at
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

S&T Jeff Green, Jajuan Johnson & a first for Paul Milsap & Raja Bell

Think Utah is going to look to get something for Milsap with one year on his contract, and I think he's a perfect compliment to Garnett & Rondo. Since I'm sure there's going to be other suitors this might be a little low of a hall for them, which is why I also included Raja Bell who makes 4 mil and I'm sure Utah would love to cut ties with

Sub Idea

If Milsap trade doesn't work out, I like Antawn Jamison on a short term contract. The idea of an athletic 4 for Rondo to throw alley oops to is super-appealing but I'm not sure it's the best option for the team. I like Jamison to stretch the floor, and to consistnetly hit the mid range jumpers. Not sports-center worthy stuff, but I think it helps us in the wins category. Especially important assuming Bradley is your starting shooting guard.

I could see a case where you could get both guys, but I think the free agent mark is a little too shallow and I could see someone throwing bigger money at Jamison.

I really like Carl Landry too, but the injuries are too concerning for me. Especially on a team that can't really afford to bank on health

Resign KG - 2 years 20 mil - player option in second

I don't know if there's a competitor out there that's going to give him the same amount of money.

Sign JJ Redick

A guy I really want to hate, but just absolutely can't find it in myself to do so. Works really hard on defense, deadly from distance, and I think he's really good keeping the ball moving. Just a super intelligent player, and he'd a nice change of pace for us.

Sign Dorrell Wright

I know he was painful at times this season, but I kinda get the feeling that he might've been a victim of both enjoying the extended off season a little too much, and an incoherent offense. Great 3 point shooter who is capable defensive plaer.

Sub Plan

Just bring back Pietrus. I'm not convinced he ever fully recovered from that concussion, whether that be a physical or mental problem.

NOTE: What I like about Reddick and Wright is that I think they're also guys that you could probably unload in a heartbeat if you wanted. So while you might have to give them a few years to make them come over, if you decided to fully blow it up you wouldn't really be forced to keep them.

Draft Fab Melo

Upside seems like it's worth the risk. If Ryan Hollins showed us anything, it's that it doesn't take much to be a quazi-effective player in spot minutes w/ Kevin Garnett

Sign Craig Smith & Joey Dorsey

These are the kind of guys I like having near the end of my bench. Hard nosed, hard working guys that are going to give you they're all.

So, ideally:

Rondo / Moore
Bradley / Redick
Pierce / D. Wright
Milsap / Craig Smith
Garnett /Melo / Dorsey

My question is how likely is J-Smooth (my and my friends' nickname for Smith) to resign with us after 2012-13? That's a lot to give up if we're only renting him for a year, and there's no guarantee he'll like it here any more than Atlanta. Boston is an exciting, but tough, place to play. Some people can't handle the pressure, and I feel like Smith might be one of those people

Argh, it has to be reasonable?  Here goes.

Trade up (#21 + JJJ) to grab Jared Sullinger, and get Tony Wroten @ #22. Get Denmon in the 2nd round.

Waive Moore.

Resign KG and Ray using bird rights to one year deals (say $11 mil for KG and $7.5 mil for Ray).

Bring back Jeff Green for 1 year $5 mil.  Wilcox at the minimum.  Dooling for the minimum. Stiemsma for his QO. Sign James Singleton to the vet min and Camby to the MLE.

Rondo (36)/Bradley(12) (Wroten/Dooling in deep reserve)
Bradley (18)/Ray(30) (Denmon in deep reserve)
Pierce (30)/Green(18)
Wilcox(20)/Sullinger (18)/Green (10) (Singleton in deep reserve)
KG(28)/Camby (20) (Stiemsma in deep reserve)

Leave a roster spot open for buyouts later in the year.

Like the speed/energy of Bradley and Wilcox in the starting line-up, the post-up option of Sullinger in the 2nd unit, the consistent rim protection with KG and Camby.  The rebounding and playmaking options in the deep bench with Singleton and Wroten.
2016 CelticsBlog Draft: Chicago Bulls

Head Coach: Fred Hoiberg

Starters: Rubio, Danny Green, Durant, Markieff Morris, Capela
Bench: Sessions, Shumpert, G. Green, T. Booker, Frye
Deep Bench: CJ Watson, H. Thompson, P. Zipser, Papagiannis, Mejri

Rookies:

Get the band back together.

This team was playing patchwork missing key players such as Green, Wilcox, & Bradley.  Yet they still made it to game 7 of the Eastern Conf Finals.  What happens had your full team been intact ? Why not bring the same guys back when you know they'll be competing for a championship ?

Rebouding was a definite concern all year.  With 2 first rounders, you have the ability to trade up and add even more to a championship caliber team and address the definite concern.

Rondo/Dooling/Moore
Bradley/Allen/Pietrus
Pierce/Green/Pietrus
Bass/Sullinger/Wilcox/JJ
KG/Wilcox/Stiemsma

I really like your thinking. I sometimes wondered throughout the course of the playoffs what we'd be like if we had Wilcox or Green or even O'Neal. I'm still skeptical about Bass being our starting PF, though. I'd really prefer him as our sixth man, with 20-25 mins a game.

Another option I've been considering, by the way: sign Nick Young instead of Jamal Crawford. He'd be cheaper, which would make it easier for us to go out and get JaVale or even someone better (or leave the cap space to keep Smith around for a long time if we wanted) and we'd have quite a guard combo with him and Rondo 1-2.
