I think this might be the year that Danny looks outside the USA for a player to draft and leave playing in Europe. The team has already been linked to Giannis Adetokunbo.

To me it all hinges on what the celtics do with Pierce. If he is brought back next season then I don't expect KG or Terry to retire yet. The Cs will be left with the following.

Guards
 Rondo
 AB
 Lee
 Terry
 Crawford
Small Forwards
 Pierce
 Green
 Williams
Bigs
 KG
 Sully
 Bass
 Melo

That puts the roster at 12 and with AB, Sully, Crawford, and Melo the Cs have a solid group of under 25yr old players.

I could see the team going with the draft and stash pick leaving 3 roster spots to add vets for the last PP+KG run.

I think it's too deep a draft to realistically do this. There are no superstars at the top, but there are very useful players to be had all the way down to the second round. Witness Jeff Whitey and Glenn Robinson, for example, being slotted in the 20s on Ford's big board right now. The top foreign prospects, Saric and Gobert, are really sketchy. Either one could be a complete bust, neither one has a reputation comparable to, say Rubio or Valenciunas.

I'm betting that the C's will take either a solid NBA-ready guy or an upside guy (like Robinson!) that can actually join the team next year.

I agree with you on the fact that this draft is very deep ( blows my mind that most mocks have Curry and Kelly as late 2nd round picks) but I'm not sure that the Cs will want to give up a roster spot and 1st round $$ to a rookie who will likely just take up a roster spot and not get minutes ext season.

I think the only way Ainge and Co. surprise me on Draft Night is if they end up selling the pick.

I wouldn't mind seeing a draft-and-stash this year.  Maybe I'm alone in saying this, but I just don't see much high-level talent in this draft.  The Celtics need upside in my opinion; somebody you could hope to build around if the dominoes fall the right way.  I don't think the high-floor, low-ceiling types like Withey are what Boston needs right now.
