Thought we could use a good catch-all thread for players as they declare for what's probably gonna be one of the deepest drafts in history.

Here are some of the guys who have officially put their names in:

Royce White (SF/PF) - Iowa St (will sign with agent)
Austin Rivers (SG) - Duke (agent)
Renardo Sidney (PF) - Mississippi St (agent)
Dion Waiters (SG) - Syracuse (agent)
Will Barton (SG) - Memphis (agent)
Moe Harkless (SF) - St. John's (agent)
Quincy Roberts (G) - Grambling (no agent)
Victor Rudd (SF) - South Florida (no agent)
Malik Wayns (PG) - Villanova (agent)
Fab Melo (C) - Syracuse (unknown)

Feel free to add anyone I've missed, I'm not as up on this stuff as a lot of posters.

Players to watch: J'Covan Brown and Myck Kabongo(?), both from Texas.

http://www.burntorangenation.com/2012/3/22/2893535/jcovan-brown-to-declare-for-nba-draft-per-reports

Quote
Following a Wednesday report that freshman point guard Myck Kabongo will depart the 40, news broke Wednesday night, reported first by the Daily Texan, that junior guard J'Covan Brown will declare for the NBA Draft. No official announcement from Brown or Kabongo yet, but it seems like merely a formality for the former.

UPDATE: Looks like Kabongo changed his mind yesterday and will stay at Texas.  Brown still leaning towards the draft.

Nice link - didn't know Melo'd declared, though it's no surprise.  Haha, gotta love the "unlikely to be drafted - will hire an agent" bunch.  What are those guys thinking, especially in this field?  Did they blow off classes and now have to choose between D-League/Europe and academic ineligibility?  Or is it just unrealistic optimism about their chances?

Seriously makes you wonder what many of these kids are thinking by declaring early when most are not going to get drafted as high as they hope to.  every one of them could use another year of school to improve their games (and in the cases of the juniors that are unlikely to be drafted---get a degree to fall back on)

Rookie minimum for a 2nd round pick is still more than they'll make in college...probably.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
GIVE ME FAB MELO. I can already imagine what he can do defensively when he learns from KG on how to properly defend.

I am intrigued by Moe Harkless. Did not see him play a lot actually, but I've been reading stuff and there's buzz around him.

2nd round picks aren't guarenteed contracts though, I think they still get something if they're released but its not much.

Now, there's a kid that should definitely go pro early.

According to that previously mentioned link, here are a few household-name "50-50" guys...

Cody Zeller 6-11 235 PF/C Indiana Fr. Lottery pick.
Peyton Siva 5-11 170 PG Louisville Jr. Late second round to (likely) undrafted.
Shabazz Napier 6-1 181 PG UConn So. Late second round to (likely) undrafted.
Mason Plumlee 6-10 235 PF/C Duke Jr. Late first to early second round.
James McAdoo 6-9 220 SF/PF UNC Fr. Late lotto to mid first round.
CJ McCollom 6-3 185 PG/SG Lehigh Jr. Second round to undrafted.
John Jenkins 6-4 185 SG Vanderbilt Jr. Late first to second round.
Tim Hardaway Jr 6-5 190 SG Michigan So. Second round to undrafted.
Reggie Bullock 6-5 180 SG North Carolina So. Second round to undrafted.

Gotta imagine next years draft will be pretty solid too if a large majority of these guys decide to wait it out a year...

Ok, no way Reggie Bullock and McAdoo are 50/50.  McAdoo's father was quoted this weekend saying there is no way his son is going to the NBA.  His exact words was "over my dead body."  Bullock is going nowhere, anyone who follows Carolina knows that Marshall, McAdoo, and Bullock are locks to stay.  Hensen and Barnes are more like 50/50 and I would be surprised if both go out.  Kids stay at Carolina, they are not Kentucky.

Cody Zeller has stated several times he wants to bring a championship to Indiana.  Plus both his brothers stayed all 4 years and Mr. Zeller is a doctor.

this was my point -- contracts aren't guaranteed, many 2nd rounders don't make the cut and if they do, they don't get much.

If they stay another year, they have a chance to move up in the draft, due to either improved performance or because the following year is projected to be less stacked, and make more money on the initial signing than they'd have made with that extra year as a pro.

I get that, but the shot at a second round contract vs the possibility of their stock declining further or injury in college, and the possibility of playing elsewhere (overseas, etc..) still is likely more $ than they'll get in college, and to some of these kids that's paramount.
