The last pick in the 2nd round last year (Mr. Irrelevant) was Isiah Thomas, playing very well and getting great press in Sac.

For the delusionally inclined, or the underrated, that example would be big inspiration, plus the Jeremy Lin undrafted story.

Key Dates:

  • NCAA Deadline for players to withdraw and maintain NCAA eligibility - April 10th.
  • NBA Early Entry Eligibility Deadline (11:59 p.m. ET) - April 29th.
  • NBA Draft Early Entrant (International) Withdrawal Deadline (5:00 p.m. ET) - June 18th.
  • NBA Draft - June 28th.

You what I take away from this?  The NCAA sucks.  What sense does it make for the NCAA deadline to withdraw being before the NBA dealine to enter the draft?  Is the NCAA purposely trying to screw with players?  How is a potential early entrant supposed to get a reasonable assertation of where they stand in regards to draft position under these circumstances?

I love watching Duke play, and always root for them, but hate the NCAA as an orginization.

Yeah i think that rule is in place simply to pacify college coaches, who at some point become more concerned with what's left of their roster over what is in the best interest of the kid who's exploring the possibility of the nba.  I understand that line of thinking to a degree, but in the end it leaves the euro players with a sizeable advantage in terms of getting a true evaluation by actual nba teams.

Yup - it has everything to do with recruiting and available scholarships.  How else is Calipari going to pick up another half-dozen McDonald's All-Americans if he's not sure his current batch are all leaving for good?

You could argue that a kid coming out, then realizing he's not ready only to find out his scholarship slot has been promised to another player isn't in his best interests either, though.

Thought we could use a good catch-all thread for players as they declare for what's probably gonna be one of the deepest drafts in history.

Here are some of the guys who have officially put their names in:

Royce White (SF/PF) - Iowa St (will sign with agent)
Austin Rivers (SG) - Duke (agent)
Renardo Sidney (PF) - Mississippi St (agent)
Dion Waiters (SG) - Syracuse (agent)
Will Barton (SG) - Memphis (agent)
Moe Harkless (SF) - St. John's (agent)
Quincy Roberts (G) - Grambling (no agent)
Victor Rudd (SF) - South Florida (no agent)
Malik Wayns (PG) - Villanova (agent)

Feel free to add anyone I've missed, I'm not as up on this stuff as a lot of posters.
you can add Hollis Thompson (G'Town) to that list.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/hollis-thompson-is-leaving-georgetown-for-nba-draft/2012/03/27/gIQAHIt1eS_story.html

has anyone seen him play? from his stats he doesn't appear to be a first round pick.

He's a very good three point shooter and looked very good in their loss to NC State.

According to that previously mentioned link, here are a few household-name "50-50" guys...

Cody Zeller 6-11 235 PF/C Indiana Fr. Lottery pick.
Peyton Siva 5-11 170 PG Louisville Jr. Late second round to (likely) undrafted.
Shabazz Napier 6-1 181 PG UConn So. Late second round to (likely) undrafted.
Mason Plumlee 6-10 235 PF/C Duke Jr. Late first to early second round.
James McAdoo 6-9 220 SF/PF UNC Fr. Late lotto to mid first round.
CJ McCollom 6-3 185 PG/SG Lehigh Jr. Second round to undrafted.
John Jenkins 6-4 185 SG Vanderbilt Jr. Late first to second round.
Tim Hardaway Jr 6-5 190 SG Michigan So. Second round to undrafted.
Reggie Bullock 6-5 180 SG North Carolina So. Second round to undrafted.

Gotta imagine next years draft will be pretty solid too if a large majority of these guys decide to wait it out a year...

Looks like CJ McCollom will declare for the draft but will not hire an agent.

McAdoo looked decent in the last game.  I think Cody will be better than Tyler Zeller.

Terrence Ross is officially in:

http://espn.go.com/nba/draft2012/story/_/id/7763291/2012-nba-draft-washington-huskies-guard-terrence-ross-enter-draft

Haven't seen much of Ross but I know some folks here are really big on him.

Yeah I'm not sure why the site thinks Bullock is 50/50 on entering.  There has been zero news about him even thinking about declaring which makes me feel like he's just going to stay in school.
do it

Updated list of early entry names (as of last night):

    • Evan Fournier 6-7 190 SF France (92) - Late first to early second round.
    • Rudy Gobert 7-0 240 C France (92) - Second round to undrafted.
    • Meyers Leonard 7-1 245 C Illinois So. - Late lottery to mid first round. (Will hire agent)
    • Arnett Moultrie 6-10 225 PF/C Miss St. Jr. - Lottery to late teens. (Will hire an agent)
    • Raymond Taylor 5-6 145 PG Florida Atlantic Jr. - Unlikely to be drafted. (Will hire agent)
    • Tony Wroten 6-5 205 PG/SG Washington Fr. - Mid first to early second round.
    • BJ Young 6-4 180 PG/SG Arkansas Fr. - Late first to (likely) second round. (Will not hire agent.)

NOTE: (92) = birth year of two Euro's listed

Interesting to see some Euros declaring already, not sure why that is.  Also interesting to see a guy like Raymond Taylor declare & hire an agent considering he has another year of eligibility...

Ok, no way Reggie Bullock and McAdoo are 50/50.  McAdoo's father was quoted this weekend saying there is no way his son is going to the NBA.  His exact words was "over my dead body."  Bullock is going nowhere, anyone who follows Carolina knows that Marshall, McAdoo, and Bullock are locks to stay.  Hensen and Barnes are more like 50/50 and I would be surprised if both go out.  Kids stay at Carolina, they are not Kentucky.

Cody Zeller has stated several times he wants to bring a championship to Indiana.  Plus both his brothers stayed all 4 years and Mr. Zeller is a doctor.

Well, Marshall is going along with Henson and Barnes...
