Don't want D Will.  If Dwight wants to come and play on Rondo's team, then no objections.

Rondo and Howard would be a great combo, except for the end of games where you'd probably have to take both of them out, because they can't hit their free throws
They would get every rebound, block, steal there is to be had.  They can also pass to their better shooting teammates for free throws.

You are missing the main point for trading Rondo for Williams, and that is to get Howard here, because his 2 best friends in the NBA (D. Willaims, Josh Smith) would be on the Celtics

  • You say when......
IF you get Howard here..you would have to get rid of doc rivers..he doesn't have the coaching mentality for a big man centered team. KG, wilcox, not classic big men type, who play the post or down low. KG was always more of an outside guy, yes, some great inside stuff...but not like howards style.....Look at ditching perk.....not playing steamer....this version of the Celtics will not work with a traditional center..it took a few years before anyone would even pass to perkins in the paint..now they never pass to steamer when there.....

IF the trades I laid out happened you wouldn't need Howard to be a big offensive weapon with Willaims, Smith, and Allen on the floor.

Isn't that the sort of thinking that led Otis Smith to acquire Glen Davis?

It's a big risk, but the there is a HUGE difference between Josh Smith and Big Baby. Smith, Howard, Williams is a good enough BIG 3 to compete with just about anyone.

Do you have a plan B if Howard decides he is staying in Orlando or goes elsewhere, or do you feel sick if you basically traded Pierce and Rondo for Smith and Williams?

Seems like they passed to Shaq when Doc coached him.

That's because you don't run an offense through Perkins or 'Steamer'. You run an offense through Dwight Howard. Just like KG is scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds since he moved to center- they are going to him to use his speed and agility inside. Do you remember the isolation dumps to Shaq inside? Or Rondo penetrating solely to draw Shaqs defender. Think about how many of those easy shots Shaq missed with his age, and how many of them Dwight Howard would have simply flushed for an easy two.

What team runs its offense through Perkins or Steamer? What post moves does Steimsma have?
I think by what you've written you aren't a fan of Doc Rivers because what you said is completely untrue and unfounded.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

You provided as evidence 'not playing steamer'? Really? Steamer is far from the classic big man and has no inside game on offense. He also had Perk for what, 7 years? How was he 'looking to ditch Perk'?

And of course it took a few years to pass to Perk. Do you remember Perk out of high school? Every coach integrates players more as they grow in competence.

I understand your point.  I don't want Dwight if I have to watch Deron Williams instead of Rondo.  Dwight and Deron are welcome, but this is Rondo's team when Paul retires.  Everyone else are just pieces.
