How come all the big name free agents want nothing to do with Boston?  Is it the city? Ownership? Coach? Players? What?

I mean really, we are competing against NJ for Howard?  CP3 wanted the Clippers, THE CLIPPERS, not Boston?

Are we doomed to rebuilding and winning championships via Draft and trade forever?

Doesn't bode well for all that "awesome" cap space we are going to have next summer, does it?

It is the Boston sucks mentality, the lousy weather, the fans attitude that we are entitled to have championship contending teams in all four sports every year that turns off a lot of athletes that grew up elsewhere.

Cap space is good in itself but not when you give out outlandish contracts to 2nd rate players like Rick Pitinoto did in the early 2000s. We are looking at high turnover here starting this year, perhaps by the March 2012 which leads to more uncertainty and inconsistency.

Yep we need a Blake Griffen, Al Jefferson, and Rudy Gay style troika to come in to help Rondo achieve a common career goal to make rebuilding 2010's style work here.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

So far at most Danny has only been able to paint a picture of two young stars--whether DH and CP, DH and RR, or whatever.  The right PP deal could change that.

IMO he needs to pull off something like the prospect of somehow landing both Kevin Love and DH, or at least two more legitimate forward-looking All-Stars to go with Rondo or Rondo's All-Star level replacement.

No need to get into deeper the history of Boston navel gazing.  If he springs the team free of the ghost of the Big Three, which no young studs want to attach themselves to, and can pull off a beauty of a trade and FA signing or two beautiful FA signings or whatever, the C's are on course to a strong future.  Inching toward it with mediocre role players or just one additional All-Star slot would be a killer IMO for what Danny needs to do.

Realistically, who are our real trading partners?  Seems like in the past we've dealt with presti in okc  and seattle, cleveland, and minny w/ mchale.  I don't see any of our usual suspects with the desire to trade for aging vets.  OKC is not gonna need anything we have, Cleveland has nothing, and Minny is an pre okc.....

It's cold and we're cheap.  It's a pretty wide consensus across the NBA that we lost the 2010 Championship because ownership wouldnt spend the MLE to give us a player above 6'6

No reason he couldn't deal with a new partner, but you may be right, he may not be able to pull off a worthwhile interim deal.  Worst case he'd had to bite the bullet and amnesty Pierce before next year.  Then it'd take some real clever jujitsu to combine a star FA and maybe a deal with a star RFA.  It will be interesting to see what goes down with Kevin Love by Wednesday.

  • Rondo = Good
They don't "hate" Boston, it's just not a very enticing location.

No night life.

It's cold.

Not a very diverse area (read: small African American population).

High income tax (compared to Florida or Texas for example).

All of these things could be overlooked IF the team happened to have some young stars, or one highlight-grabbing superstar.  Unfortunately, such is not the case.  Our best young player is Rondo, and he's unconventional and mercurial.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Ironic that David West was knocked for taking the money over going to a contender....now look at the C's record and Indiana's

Oh yeah, another example of free agents shunning Boston.  Except this one is a B list player choosing a B list team, with 0 tradition, and an even smaller market!!  Perhaps we need to target stars towards the end of their career who have tried everything else and given up.  Like Ray and KG!! we will let other teams sign Howard and after he doesnt win a championship for 3 or 4 years he will be more open to Boston.

I don't think it is the city at all.  I think it is the current roster.  Obviously, the Big 3 are on their last legs.  And we now see what the rest of the league really thinks of Rondo.
