I know I'm a broken record, but... Ray Allen for OJ Mayo + salary filler.
meh....maybe if we had some sort of clause where the Celtics had the option of swapping firsts.

Actually, Memphis is desperate for a PF with Arthur out for the year and Z-Bo gone for some time......wonder if Mayo for Bass would work?

Hmm. I think it could. Bass makes $4m this yr and Mayo makes $5.6m. I'm not entirely sure of the rules now with the new CBA, but this may be a better base for a trade salary wise.
Memphis would jump at that (Bass for Mayo).

Posted in another thread but this is prolly the right place

Billups can't be traded this season. Part of the amnesty rule.

Of course they will. Mayo is not that good.

And by comparison, Bass is the next coming of Tim Duncan.

I think you may be thinking of a player accepting his qualifying offer and playing out the year to become a UFA.

But as you said, CBA ins and outs. There's a good chance it could say something completely different.

I was addressing the Ray Allen trade. Bass... pretty much a lateral move in terms of talent, except we're giving up a position of need, which is also harder to staff. And we're not getting a building block. So... meh?

Wrote this a few weeks ago.  These were the only viable trade partners I could see us trading KG's expiring contract for:

"Here are the type of pipe dreams I could see getting at the trade deadline for KG's expiring contract IF the other team got desperate to unload salary and free up cap space in 2012:

KG's 22 mil expiring and draft picks to:

Charlotte:
Ty Thomas - 7-9 mil for the next 4 years
+ Corey Maggette - 10 mil for the next 2 years

Hornets:
Okafor - 12-14 mil for next 3 years
+ Ariza - 7-8 mil for next 3 years

Atlanta:
Joe Johnson - 18-25 mil for next 5 years (probably unlikely)

Dallas:
Brendan Haywood - 7-10 mil for next 4 years
+ Shawn Marion - 8-9 mil for next 3 years

Detroit:
Ben Gordon - 11-13 mil next 3 years
+ Charlie V - 7.5-8.5 for next 3 years

Bucks (MAJOR pipe dream)
Bogut - 12-14 mil for 3 years
+ Gooden - 6.6 mil for next 4 years

Philly
Elton Brand - 17-18 mil for 2 years

Washington
Rashard Lewis - 22-23 mil for 2 years
+ A young player they are willing to throw away "

I'll add, it's HIGHLY unlikely, but KG for Big Al (2 years 14-15 mil) and Devin Harris (2 years 9 mil) works... If Utah decides Harris is crap and wants to just give Al's minutes to Favors.  Maybe you do KG for Big AL + Millisip (2 years 7 mil) if Utah just wants to start feeding Favors AND Kanter lots of minutes.

I'd take that Milwaukee trade out to a nice steak dinner and bring expensive flowers. I wouldn't even try for a kiss on the first date.

Like the idea with Washington, placing Ray and Rashard back on the same team again, even if briefly. Make Chris Singleton the young guy we get back.

The way I see it, we can ONLY trade one of the Big 3 to a contender. If it's Allen or Garnett, it has to be for some asset we actually want to keep through the rebuilding, that's a good value. Pretty hard to pry that away from a contender in said deal.

Thus I propose the heresy: the only thing we can do is move Pierce to a contender. He MUST know that we are going into full rebuild mode and are helping him get another ring. This needs to be a Ray Bourque type send off. We can't afford to make any of our Big 3 unhappy - how's that going to look when we try to sign big free agents?

Pierce, Dooling to Oklahoma City for
Sefolosha, Mohammed, Maynor, Cole Aldrich, Ivey, 1st round pick

Let Sefolosha start for us, give Dooling's minutes to Bradley / Moore.
Maynor, Sefolosha and Aldrich make combined $8M next year and could be moved again.

We now have 3 1st round picks in a deep draft, and $8M more cap room next year with a few more cheap players under contract to fill out the roster.

Ouch, but hey, rip off the Band-Aid. Next year we would basically have Rondo, our pick of the youngs (Johnson, Bradley, Moore, Stiemsma, Aldrich), 3 1st rounders, and about $40M to spend. That's potentially Rondo + 8 young players + 2 max players.

The biggest problem I have with that is...preserve it for what? Or whom, I suppose.

I'm afraid it may have to be some sort of a trade, because I don't see us signing any sort of top free agent.

Pretty much what I've been wondering. The ufa class this summer is laughable (I think D12 will be traded before the deadline and will resign with whatever team he lands on. Money talks). We could take a chance and off big money to an rfa (K. Love?) but it will likely be matched.
