Brook Lopez has been diagnosed with a stress fracture in his right foot. The injury will require surgery which will be performed on Friday.

The Nets had been pursuing a trade for Dwight Howard and Lopez was a key component of their offer to Orlando.

Lopez sustained the injury in the pre-season game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.

Hope this doesn't mean Bynum for Dwight, I really would hate it if he went there.

Only if Orlando wants to do the trade soon.

If they want to wait, chances are, Bynum will be hurt by then.

He does have the benefit of being suspsneded for the first five games.

Tough news for the Nets.  Probably not the way they want to begin their year long audition for the role as Deron Williams' future.

Silver lining:  the Nets draft pick this year will look even better to Orlando at the trading deadline.

So true.  That's why I don't figure it really matters in the trade scenario of either a Bynum offer or Lopez offer.  Not like Bynum is a picture of health.

And Roy is right on with the Nets pick, though at some point the amount of firsts rumored is so staggering that I'm not sure it matters (wasn't it 7? Crazy).

Does anybody not really even care if LA gets Howard?

All that means is he will be out of the East we won't see him in the playoffs unless in the Finals and at the end of the day aside from health him and Bynum are very similar

I don't consider Howard and Bynum to be all that similar.  Howard is head and shoulders better.

That's real world.

What's the silver lining to those that own him in fantasy?  ;)

I know Dwight is definitely better but similar as in top 3-5 centers out there can put up Dwight numbers just don't see him instantly putting them over the top like some would think

Dwight keeps them in the conversation for the next 7-8 years.  I would like them out of the conversation for the next 7-8 years.

Not only in his play but his durability.  Howard has missed how many games? (I don't know the actual number but it is pretty much 0)  I think we all know Bynum's injury history.

Especially the shoulders. Man is a freak, Bynum might not get hurt often if he worked out like Dwight.

And Lopez is a restricted FA. This means that if the Nets sign Howard they most likely would have to renounce Lopez's right making him unrestricted. This also means that we could potentially sign him to a cheaper, non-max, contract this summer.
