If we do my other trade KG for Jefferson and Millsap then we can do this one.

Celtics get Brewer and Fernandez

Mavs get Oneal

Then we are young all over and ready for the future today.

Why would the Mavs do this...ever? They have much better ways to unload Brewer and Fernandez than to take on JO's contract.

Frees up cap space next year and gives them a back up center

On a running team, a C linup of KG backed up by Wilcox is actually both pretty good AND reliable.  I'd take it against most matchups in the league.

That leaves room for either Bass or Green to start at the 4, which I like in an umptemop offense.

If Bass starts, then Green gets an easy 30 minutes as a backup 3/4 like Lamar Odom, easily making him a 6th man candidate.

But I'd rather have JO and WIlcox split time at the 5, with KG/Bass at 4 and PP/Green at the 3.  I like each of those front lines reasonably well:

PP/KG/JO
JG/Bass/Wilcox

Alternate:

PP/Bass/KG
JG/J3/Wilcox or Quisy/JG/Wilcox

I think we should keep JO; we end up with two solid front lines, good for a platoon that can get through the season and playoffs AND stay reasonably healthy (a JO vacation excepted)

Way to go, Danny boy!

While it is true that the Mavs want space next year, it is also true that they want to compete this year. Would O'Neal be the best value they could get for those two? Seems a bit lacking to me.

I suppose I would like having those two but I am really confused about what our bench will look like at the moment. Need to see them play first.

Actually, they're trying too dump at least one of them so Favors and Kantor can develop.
