"JUST FOR FUN"

BOS: Steve Nash, Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, Brandon Bass
($45M in, $30M out)

ORL: Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green (S&T), JaJuan Johnson, Jermaine O'Neal, #1 pick
($23M in, $33M out)

PHO: Jameer Nelson, Avery Bradley, Big Baby (S&T), #1 pick
($15M in, $12M out)

Orlando gets roughly our Chris Paul offer.
Phoenix gets 3 younger players and a pick for Nash in his final year.
Boston goes all in once again:

Nash / Dooling
Allen / ?
Pierce / Turkoglu
Garnett / Bass
Howard / ?

That would be one of the best shooting backcourts in history AND one of the best defense frontcourts, with Paul Pierce in between and 3 veteran bench players.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Let's be real for a second.

Our offer that couldn't get Chris Paul is somehow going to net us Dwight Howard?

What the Clippers and Warriors wouldn't give for Paul they will for Howard.

We aren't getting him through any trade.

Possibly, but there's no guarantee that Rondo's value is the same in Orlando as it (apparently) was in New Orleans. IMO there are at least some GMs who think Rondo >= Curry / Gordon, especially with a reasonable contract locked up.

And FWIW in this deal Orlando manages to hit the hard reset button - they're unloading Turkoglu and Nelson as well, throw in the Arenas amnesty and we're talking about over $60M coming off of Orlando's cap while still getting Rondo+. We don't know that LA or GSW will be able to move Turkoglu AND Nelson in the deal as well. Heck, Orlando could do this with eyes on someone like Gordon or Curry in free agency....

All that said, this is obviously contrived to make a fantasy lineup in Boston. Acknowledged =).

Ah bah humbug, I'm not saying it's *likely* but I think losing the Paul derby is twisting things a bit. Orlando isn't going to let Howard become a free agent. He's going to be traded.

The Lakers just traded Odom and Gasol and IMO unless Bynum plays 66 games this year and looks like a new man, Orlando is not trading the franchise for his balky knees.

New Jersey offered Lopez and 2 picks. Lopez sucks... worst defender and rebounder in the league at his position last year and will still command $10M+.

Clippers could offer Gordon, Jordan and picks... but will they really build around Griffin and Howard with no backcourt at all? Especially if that core goes far this year, will they break it up?

Warriors could offer Curry, but c'mon, suddenly we can't compete with that because someone claimed, in a rumor, than NO liked him better than Rondo??

As for other big market / warm weather teams... Knicks no chance, Chicago not happening (Noah?), Miami not possible...

A lot can happen, and 30 teams will be bidding on him, but to say the Cs are out of it seems a bit reactionary over this Paul drama to me.
