Obviously we will have the money to get the best FA next year, but is there anyone out there even worth it? Deron Williams is good, but he is supposedly resigning with the Nets.

Smart money says Rondo wont be a Celtic in 24hrs

I can see him getting shipped to the Kings or Raptors... Possibly for Bargiani and Calderon or Evans and a big man.... This is like Derrick Favors from last year with his name swirling around for Melo all year, once it fell through he was shipped for Williams within hours ..
THE DAMAGE IS DONE

No, only point of the trade was to try to land a young superstar who could win now and possibly build around. Only Paul fit that description, and only just.

Now we hope that by some miracle howard chooses us over a bigger market.

Yep,. its going to be REALLY ugly  ::).......but next year is going to be a disaster , we will make the Cavs look like contenders.  And down hill from there.

team is going to struggle this year because we are old and have no bench...and next year will be worse.

I say no...   But, you never know with Ainge.  The problem I've with all of this is whenever a team fails to trade a key player, how does the team save face.  You don't...

Subsequently, you've to keep Rondo to prevent further damage in your relationship with he and his agent.  I mean Rondo's agent actually believed his client wouldn't be traded by Ainge.  Okay, imagine if Ainge goes ahead and does so anyway.  Think of all the other players who Billy Duffy represents.  Yeah, Boston doesn't want to develop a bad reputation around the league among current players and future clients of Duffy.  The point is that you want to build on that trust, not help ruin it.

Worst case scenario just occured in Boston.

Hard to say without knowing what's out there.

I don't think Ainge has ever over-valued him. Plenty of people here to do that.

You absolutely keep shopping. A guard who cannot shoot cannot be the centerpiece of any cogent rebuilding plan.

Why does Rondo need to be the centerpiece?

Why can't he just be the first piece of the puzzle? A building block rather than a franchise player.

No.  It made sense when you were getting a superstar in return.  But with Paul off the market, I think you hold on to Rondo, and bide your time until the right opportunity to either put stars around him, or trade him for another legit superstar presents itself.

Patience needs to be a virtue now.
